I don't even recall Metallica having blast beats as death metal and black metal does. They didn't really have mosh parts either. When I was into that stuff I always preferred the more underground bands, 1) because they were heavier, and 2) they didn't have a mainstream or poseur following ;)

I feel old now :(

im all about the first 4 metallica albums, the black album went a lil more mainstream but it still rocked....i agree as far as im concerned the black was their last album

They also had hundreds of EPs and unreseased albums. A few hard-to-find ones I might still have are:

Jump in the Fire EP
Creeping Death EP
One Last Visit (Cliff Burtun Tribute)
Stone Cold Crazy (remix)
Killing Time (remix)
Breadfan (remix)
So What (remix)
Garage Daze Re-revisited EP
Cliff 'em All (video)

Sorry for rambling...just reminiscing :(

Black album was definitely their last.. and justice for all was my favorite though. The new album goes back to their original sound supposedly, we'll see how this goes.

My favorite was Puppets also. I loved "Disposable Heroes."

Death metal bands are still around? I used to go to death metal shows at Roxy all the time. I even saw Morbid Angel at Limelight
