:hmmm so i was surprised tonight to find out that one my friends who is a recruiter for a pretty huge company... has an entire dept. who reviews prospective applicants/gradautes for a my space page... and depending upon their profile may or may not hire 'em... :hmmm

I posted about this months ago...people thought I was exaggerating :disgusted
Most recruiters are googling people and looking on sites like myspace for background checks...and I also wrote how they love getting the dirt because it shows they are "doing their jobs" to their clients. What members do not realize is that they are actually creating a shadow resume that can and most likely WILL hurt their employment opportunities ...and this (for the recruiters) is easy, cheap and available. ...

a friend of mine was at an interview last month....and the CEO pulled up her myspace page in the middle of her interview.
I don't think she got the job. :chuckle

what da...anyway that CEO is a herb.
What successful CEO of a company whips out an interviewer's MYSPACE page???
What was his point? Why even TAKE the interview and waste that time if he knew about the profile and was unimpressed by it? :yourcrazy :booted

it would probably help you too if your profile is normal and not filled with crack references and pictures of yourself half naked

My myspace is all pics no reference to where I work. All I got from my google was my name on a petition to stop clubbing of seals in the Arctic.
Im a good boy.

that's a point someone at the table brought up... the whole "why should they care what you do in your private life"... but the flip side to that comment is how private is someone who posts naked pictures of themselves all over a public web page or who edits their background with all sorts of cannibus pics...
"private" is what you do when you *don't* want the world to know about it... :shuffle

im not surprised.. but it seems like it can be easy to avoid - i am hoping most people have a professional email on their resume that they don't use for social purposes like myspace.. & leave out your current workplace if you are in the process of looking for a job - that seems like the obvious :shrugger

this could be the dumbest thing I've ever read. I'm actually dumber than I was like 30 seconds ago when I opened this thread..

How many CEO's do you know that are doing interviews(unless it's an exec position)? That should have been a tip off about the company right there.

Well if it is a small company then it is definately possible.

I took my last name off myspace becasue when you use the search feature to search for someone, if they have their last name in the personal iformation section, it'll come up. So i just left it as paulette because there are tons of paulette's and this way people that I dont want finding me wont find me.
NOt that I have anything bad, its mostly just pics of me and my friends but still.

a friend of mine got fired for having a myspace page actually, it wasn't bad but a parent saw it (she teaches 11 y/os) and reported her to the state (this wasn't NY or NJ).
