I just opened an email from "service@paypal.com" confirming my payment to a guy in Cali for a motorola phone for $294.00 :suspicion

i haven't bought anything in months and def. didn't authorize THAT so I went into paypal and there is no recent activity or anything that mentions that payment :suspicion :suspicion

The email seemed legit, had the logo and stuff, not to mention it was from an "@paypal.com" address....

has this ever happened to anyone?

what do i do?? :hmmm

yes and VERY often with paypal
happened with my bank (Bank of America) so often that they actually changed the way we log in now to be more secure
did it require you to "sign in and check your account"???

forward the scam email to paypal

Yup, same thing happened to me and it was a scam..if there was no activity shown through paypal and nothing charged to your CC or taken from your back account, just send the email to paypal and not the email they left you get it from the website. Just keep your eye on your accounts and make sure nothing is deducted.

I'd definately forward the email along to paypal and hopefully if it gave you an option to sign in from that email to your account, you didn't?

every day theres a 100 new ebay and paypal email scams

the biggest one is where they set up a link ie: service@paypal.com or Service@ebay.com that doesnt go to these sites, but sends you somewhere else

NEVER click on a pre-fabricated link someone sent you
always go open a new browser and type in the web address yourself

also just putting your cursor over the sent link may sometimes show you teh real IP or web address you are going to...and you can see its a different address

if you clicked that link you shoul ddef spyware scan and virus scan your pc, clear all cookies, etc...

and keep a close eye on all your accounts, etc for suspicious activity

Actually, you should send it to spoof@paypal.com

Never click any links on those emails.

Scam...

Also be aware of scams regarding Chase bank as I have received emails asking to update shit or whatever. They never send that stuff through e-mail and immediately told me to report to abuse@

It has become a rule of thumb to not do anything online regarding credit card, etc...to do direct and not via e-mail.

Credit Card transactions can't be done from an e-mail anyway. You need to go to the website so any email asking to do some sort of credit card transaction is fake.
