From 1989 to 1997 Sammy hit 207 homers in 9 years......for an average of 23 homers a year

From 1998 to the present He hit 298 homers in 6 years....for an average of 49.66

thats a huge fucking difference. No one will ever know but if they let Gaylord perry in the Hall then there should be room for sammy too.

I truly don't think the corked bat made that much of a difference Buc. I think any perfomance enhancing drugs he's taken over those years have more to do with his hr's going up.

The guy was hitting moon shots, if the bat wasn't corked they would probably still be hrs, just not 450 footers.

It's ashame cause we'll never know how long we has corking, and this tarnishes just about everything he's ever accomplished.

but people knew that gaylord perry was putting vasoline on balls for 22 years and he still got in.....

did he admit to it after gettin in the hall?

still gaylord never had the stature of Sammy. Sammy is on pace to break HR records which is more appealing to fans than a guy throwing spitballs for a career.

you can't play the averages game like that . . . look at statistics in general. i remember, back in like 87 or 88, don't remember exactly, but Big Mac lead the league in homers with 49, and George Bell lead RBIs with like 134 . . . now in today's game (mid-90s to present), with juiced balls, performance enhancing drugs, etc, etc, those numbers, although considerably exceptional, would put you somewhere in the top 15 (approx.), usually tied with a few other players. the fact that his home-run production went up, can be accredited to much more influential factors than a corked bat. besides, you know damn well you wouldn't be making a big of a fuss about this if it were someone like Bernie Williams ;)

we are not talking about bernie williams. bernie is not a home run hitter.

Sosa and Bonds were both tooth picks when they broke into league.....now they are both monsters. I absolutely believe that both of them juiced and stopped this year and thats why sammy was using a corked bat.....

my mistake, i meant to use Giambi as the yanks example, but for some reason i was thinking yankees clean-up hitter, and bernie williams popped into my head.

you can't even use giambi.....He is not a homerun hitter like sammy and bonds are.....Giambi hasn't hit over 45 hr's in a year yet

either did Sammy in his first 7 full seasons. Jason actually has more hrs than Sosa during his first 7.

thats my point nick.....Sosa came out of nowhere in 98....he jumped from 40 to 66 homers in a season.....

giambi has been steady 30-40 homers....Plus he is known as a high on base percentage guy....Not for his homers like sammy.

At least Big mac admitted using andro....

please dont compare sammy and barry, because sammy was an average ball player before all the home runs while bonds was still a great player before the home runs
