I think it's either a cover up, the league already knows baseball has an image problem. Finding Sosa, the great ambassador of the game, guilty of cheating would be devastating to the game.

or Sosa figured he'd go with the bp bat for as long as he could and if he got caught use that as excuse and let his other 76 bats prove his innocence.

either way I find Sosa is guilty, but unlike all the major leaguers, he got caught.
