For some reason out of all the records I have I dont know the names to most...
I seem to associate them by sounds and looks... and when it comes to my cd collection I couldnt tell ya one name... although I do know which ones to play at the right time.. this topic was discussed on FP and I thought it would be neto to see how you pros arrange your wax :)

i have absolutly no idea the names of 90% of my records. i just know them by sight. thats usually why i dont post my recent favs...i usually dont know the names.
my cd book is a complete mess. no organization whatsoever. i actually just got thru ripping all of the trax that i wanna keep into my computer so that i can re-burn new cds and free up some room in the book.
if anyone has any suggestions as the the best way to organize a cd book, i would GREATLY appreciate it....im leaning toward just organizing by basic genre (house, prog, trance, ect).

I know most of the records I play, however when I started djin and had no clue who these producers and remixer were I would know which songs to play by site or sound, liek u said and I always write down the music I put on my cds, its very important. Thats pretty kool u know which cds to play without writing down the names, just wait till that cd book gets bigger and then well see if u know what to play ;) hehe

Its better when u know names, titles & labels cause many records are discreetly marked and somtimes your favorite producer could have worked on a track and you wouldnt even have known if you hadnt read the fine print...
Knowing lables also helps cause most labels push a peticular sound so if you find one you like, then you shop for those...

I agree.
I hate when a DJ doesn't know the name of the track they are playing. Some people just like have CDs loaded with music and play them all randomly without knowing who it's by or knowing whether it's new or old.

I guess knowing all the names/labels/producers will come natrual to me over time.... as for now I go for a certain type of sound regardless of who did it.
