this is great news longterm for all companys that produce flash memory as well, because the iphone will help stop the oversupply of NAND flash, as the iphone will eat up flash memory
meanwhile, RIMM and PALM are TANKING on this news. between 140-144 RIMM was a clear short with a PE of 54. RIMM will go back to 100 easy.

the stock you want to buy now is SNDK, pe of 15x
they are the #1 partner with supplying flash memory for Microsoft Vista with the USB connect ready boost
they have the patent on x4 technology which is gonna be the NEW standard in flash memory when it goes into production (through aquisition of m-systems)
get royalties from almost all companies that produce flash memory
and more that i'm not listing
stock got killed after margins got slashed (expected) in 3rd q.
im betting it will explode to 90 by end of year.
as always do your own DD, but i have a nice position building, been buying from 60 all the way down to 40.

Sandisk doesnt own the rights to secure digital cards (SD), microSD, miniSD, etc.. neither do they make the flash memory inside the ipods.. sandisk makes their own players and theyre constantly forced to lower their prices because of Apple, plus they have this obsession with marketing the capacity of their drives (we have 10 gig, ipod has 8 gig -- newsflash, no one cares).
SAMSUNG makes the flash memory inside ipods as well as the device itself.. they dont even have to sell anything else to be profitable.. let alone the awesome LCD TV's they've been putting out there and great marketing co-ops (NFL for one). Samsung is the company to buy if youre interested in flash ipods and the hardware itself.. but the big moneymaker for apple here is how it is solidifying its place as the #1 content provider for music, movies, TV shows. They could go ahead and sell socks on itunes now and everyone will only buy their socks from itunes from now on because its getting to the point where it is inside everyones home.

sorry I wasnt sure if you meant SNDK is a buy because of apple or a buy on its own.. in which case I agree that SNDK is a good company.. but apple hurts them if anything. I would be careful about any company declaring "the new standard" though.. everyone has a new standard nowadays.. truth is regular old SD cards are going to be around for a while and are going all the way up to 32 GB in the near future.

sndk gets royalties from hynix/toshiba NAND produced. samsung is constantly losing market share to the SNDK/toshiba monster which is why they are talking about how POOR this quarter is gonna be. the ONLY thing that samsung has are ipods, and that isn't enough to sustain the company.
sndk has 18ish% of the mp3 market, and only because they offer an alternative to ipods. obviously if they keep 18% that would be a win, because they aren't shooting to be #1 or even really take much market share, becuase everyone knows the ipods are the trendy thing to have, and thus everyone will have one. their mp3 players are actually really good, but we both know it will be impossible to make people switch off.
the $$$$ in sndk comes from the SSD drives that will be in all notebook computers in a few years (flash harddrives instead of regular HDs), x4 technology (which has a very good chance of being in apple products in teh future because they OWN THE RIGHTS TO the 4-bit technology) so even if samsung produces it they are paying heavy royalties now, and the partnership with microsoft for vista.
the memory game is always more capacity and falling prices. a 1gb card was whast, 400$ 3 years ago, and now you can get a good one for 39. they are the market leader and when you associate a SD card, you are buying SanDisk.
In the end, SNDK and APPL will both explode,a nd for the most part do not compete with each other. but due to low PE, i see SNDK as MORE of a value play right now, AAPL i bought back in the 70s :lostit

SNDK has been beaten to shit. we're talking about a company that has 13/shr in CASH available with a low PE. fundamentals are screaming buy, there was just a drop in flash memory prices in the 3rd q and people sold off.
there is no doubt that this is a long term buy and hold. especially with the partnership with vista, introduction of SSD, new contract with hynix looming, x4 technology. even if for some reason the 4th q is not as strong as i expect (which should be MONSTER with the electronics holiday sales), i'd ride this down another 10 points and in 5 yeras watch it be up 100+

The Apple iPhone runs OS X

http://www.blogsmithmedia.com/www.engadget.com/media/2007/01/apple-iphone-official-1.jpg (http://www.apple.com/iphone/technology/specs.html)
Capping literally years of (http://www.engadget.com/2004/12/06/engadget-podcast-019-12-06-2004/)speculation (http://www.engadget.com/search/?q=iphone) on perhaps the most intensely followed unconfirmed product in Apple's history -- and that's saying a lot -- the iPhone has been announced today. Yeah, we said it: "iPhone," the name the entire free world had all but unanimously christened it from the time it'd been nothing more than a twinkle in Stevie J's eye (comments, Cisco? (http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/18/cisco-not-apple-announces-iphone-branded-voip-phones/)). Sweet, glorious specs of the 11.6 millimeter device (that's frickin' thin, by the way) include a 3.5-inch 480 x 320 touchscreen display with multi-touch support and a proximity sensor to turn off the sensor when it's close to your face, 2 megapixel cam, 4GB or 8 GB of storage, Bluetooth with EDR and A2DP, WiFi that automatically engages when in range, and quadband GSM radio with EDGE. Perhaps most amazingly, though, it somehow runs OS X with support for Widgets, Google Maps, and Safari, and iTunes (of course) with CoverFlow out of the gate. A partnership with Yahoo will allow all iPhone customers to hook up with free push IMAP email. Apple quotes 5 hours of battery life for talk or video, with a full 16 hours in music mode -- no word on standby time yet. In a twisted way, this is one rumor mill we're almost sad to see grind to a halt; after all, when is the next time we're going to have an opportunity to run this picture (http://www.engadget.com/2006/12/03/kevin-rose-confirms-iphone/)? The 4GB iPhone will go out the door in the US as a Cingular exclusive for $499 on a two-year contract, 8GB for $599. Ships Stateside in June, Europe in fourth quarter, Asia in 2008.

Probably will since they anounced it has EDGE capability. AND if this phone whips ass on the cell phone market then I wouldn't see why ALL carriers would take it. Like they did with the Treo.

Just realized that Cingular is the only company that has the Myspace Mobile technology, so basically you can use the I-phone for a Myspace mobile device.
They just cancelled out the Helio phone market. Chachinnnggg.

i've used PDAs extensively on sprint/verizon/cingulars broadband networks, and cingular is AWFUL, i'm talking near dial up speed. service may be good, but the broadband internet axx (which is what people are looking for in a PDA) is AWFUL right now.
i'd love to see iphone on verizon with their EVDO network

Cingular does have HSDPA coming out soon which is well over 3mbps.. but Jobs said clearly that this phone isnt 3G so it wont be able to use it. It has WiFi and Bluetooth though.
