ok, first off, fuck the french for booing our national anthem AGAIN

Whistling louder against Brazil (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=270259&cc=5739)

did anyone watch that game? i caught the first half when brazil scored that goal, but i also saw the play where landon donavan was robbed of what should have been a penalty, and a red card -- no contact was made with the ball, the challenge came directly from behind. it was blatant bias. i am extremely impressed with our team because they didn't whine and complain about it as much as they were justified to on the field -- credit bruce arena's style. i personally think that the US team, on the international scale shows class (or call it humility because we know we aren't anywhere close to world domination of this sport). to only give a single goal to brazil was impressive, nonetheless.

weren't we missing some of our better players too?

The US team is too young and inexperienced to play at that level, give them a few years and i think they will be a major contender.

for something like the confederations cup, nations don't usually play their absolute best unless those particular players are in need of tuning or they offer more assistance to the younger guys -- basically, it doesn't really mean all that much and coaches use it to find the best combination of internationals for the more important tourneys.

despite this, the game quality was shite . . . and for whoever made that comment about US soccer talent: don't underestimate the US team, or american footballers in general, we've made amazing impact overseas -- ex. Brad Friedel, who plays on Blackburn in the English Premiership, was voted top goalie in the EPL this past season -- argueably the best goalie in the world next to Buffon of Juventus this past season. unfortunately soccer and politics go hand in hand so teams are really gunning for us across the globe. doesn't matter who we play, its all cutthroat.
