View Full Version : Non Leg workers never understood

I got a gripe,
You can goto my gym at any time of the day and the benches will have lines, but the squat racks will be empty, ALL THE TIME. i think in all the time i been a member at this new gym i have seen about 3 people do leg work outs the real way.
I have at least 5 friends (1 on this board) that refuse to work out legs, or if they do work out legs they do gay leg press (put on 10 plates and move it 2 inches) and then say they did legs. that or they do leg extensions and leg curls. I mean if your talking your pushing 110 dumbells on incline (without a spot i find that hard to believe) you should be pushing close to 320 on squat.
Why do people insist on NOT training legs, the right way, people can do compounds for shoulders chest and back, but not for legs?
its really funny to see a really big top heavy guy on pencils for legs. it makes no sense to me whatsoever, that if you are going to put the time in to work out why you wouldn't attack legs harder than any other body part.
80% of your strength in any sport comes from your legs, strong legs training can yeild great muscle growth everywhere.
p.s. im up to 2plates and quarters ass to grass 10 reps , never again will i go back to 90% its completely pointless i wish i would have learned this 10 years ago. but. so be it. legs have just blown the fuck out, people will look at me and say what do you weight 175 -180 im 195 most of it is in my legs ,ass and shoulders.

i dont lift legs heavy at all--i just do it to stretch them somehwat, i can barely fit my legs into jeans as it is

your working your legs out to stretch them?
but working out shortens muscles.
think about this if you DID work out legs heavy,
your whole body would be bigger by the summer, chest tris, everything.
im a big promoter of a full body routine, any body part NOT done up to par with the rest of your work out , is just waiting for an injury of opposing forces to happen.
put it this way if you work out your chest reallly heavy and not your back
you will put your body out of whack, the same thing goes with legs and upper body, if you work your upper body out really heavy and go light on legs, then your making a dysfunction in strength and muscle distribution that in the end a lot of times ends up as a tear or a pulled ligament.
Yeah, my legs and ass barely fit in jeans, but I still work them fairly hard. I've had knee problems for years, but I still push them as hard as i can:
Smith Machine squats x 4
Leg press x 4
Stiff Deads x 3
Extensions x 3 to 4
Ham curls x 3
Calves x 4 to 5
I hit them every Wed to break up my upper body workouts

leg day is monday.. while everyone else is doing chest im doing legs to get them the fuck out of the way... anyone who said a true bodybuilder loves legs is full of shit.. i hate them with a passion but theyre a necc evil

i can see keeping the upper in proportionm but like i said my quads are so big already that none of my jeans fit me

i hear you im in the same boat, i wear a 33-34 waist and have to buy at least 36 inch jeans, otherwise its not happening, forget suit pants i do the switcharoo when im suit shopping and the guys not looking. 34 waist will have NO pleat down the front what so ever.
just make sure the HAMs are just as strong thats how you get a blow up.

if you do not develop your lower body...It will hinder your upper...if your one oif those monkeys that do not put a consistant effort to your entire body...again, you are wasting your time....
Anyone who has a 'jacked' upper body and stalks for legs....you will wind up hurting you body development as you age....either workout correctly or dont do it at all.....

i suffer from kneee problems as well,
my fam has arthritis,
glucosamine and MSM does miracles, you have to try it to believe it. my joint feel like im in my 20's again no pain, no stiffness.
the weather don't help either some days when its real cold and damp out my joints kill.

My legs are my strongest part of my body. Its my upper body that needs work....
I guess its different for men and women.

ya i hate legs too. i hate back worse i ALWAYS get sea sick from doing back.

it may be in my head but i feel fluid in my joints (fluidity rather than actual fluid)

Same here man. I still do legs but I dont do them heavy. I cant fit into jeans when I start working the out heavy.
