I am going to try and keep a weekly wine list going on NCC so we can all gain more knowledge, including myself. I know there are a few people who are into wines, so lets try this out:
I will post some wines I have been looking to try with a description and also some wines that I recommend...I will also try to give only wines I consider a good value(priced under $30, but usually somewhere between $10-20)
My picks for the week:
Castello Banfi Chianti Classico Riserva
http://www.wineaccess.com/wine-utils/img-display.tcl?pk_value=15522
Description:
Round, subtle and elegant, typical of a full-bodied Chianti Classico. Ruby-red in color with an intense vanilla and licorice bouquet.
Enjoy with flavorful roasts, fillets, pastas, and cheeses..
Cantina Gattavecchi Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva
NO IMAGE
Description:
Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Tuscany, Italy- 100% Prugnolo Gentile that is aged for over 2 years in Slavonian oak. The aromas are ripe and powerful, accompanying flavors of berries and smoke, with hints of raisins. It is full-bodied, with big, velvety tannins and a long rustic finish. {Intense, Berry, Smoke, Raisin, Oak, Full-bodied}
Robert Mondavi Winery Fume Blanc Napa Valley
http://www.wineaccess.com/wine-utils/img-display.tcl?pk_value=12205

Simple, fruity, citrusy, adding a hint of floral character to make it interesting. Some spicy oak on the finish. Ready now.

Here are a few red choices and one pretty good very inexpensive Chardonnay.:agree
Tin Cows 2005 Pinot Noir, Australia
The Tin Cows wines are made fruit fruit grown at the TarraWarra Estate and Tin Cows vineyard in the Yarra Valley. These wines over-deliver in quality reflecting the serious TarraWarra edge combined with the exciting packaging and value of the Tin Cows brand.
The 2005 Tin Cows Pinot Noir has a nose combining Italian herbs, strawberries, with hints of tomato leaf and spice. These characters are typical of the Yarra Valley in a cooler season, while the concentration reflects the low yields. The palate is finely structured, with fine, subtle tannins, combined with delicate fruit flavours of raspberries and spice.
The wine is deceptively complex and long, it is very drinkable now, and will certainly reward cellaring for a few years.

Fincas Don Martino Violetas 2003 Malbec, Argentina
Medium ruby in the glass this wine has a supple nose of shifting aromas that slip between plums, prunes, and violets. In the mouth it is soft and smooth with very light tannins that underscore flavors of plums and cherries that last through to a very nice finish. One of the more floral Malbecs I have had, and very nice for it.

Don Rodolfo Tannat 2003, Argentina
As an inside this is a pretty obscure varietal that very few will have a reference point on. Its origin is in the Southwestern part of France around Madiran. The wines are known for their firm tannins, and the word association between tannin and Tannat cannot be overlooked. But suffice it to say that this has found a new home in Argentina where it displays an abundance of sweeter blackberry fruit and a dusty, leather component to the fruit. The tannins are ripe and much softer than in its home of origen in France.

Barnard Griffin 2004 Chardonnay
Columbia Valley, Washington
A rich, complex and buttery wine of vivid varietal fruit aromas augmented by French oak background. The finish is rich, mouth-filling, and long on the palate. This Chardonnay works great as a stand alone or may be served with appetizers, rich sauced dishes, seafood, or poultry.

I would do ping pong this weekend. My one friend is annoying me already even though he's just gonna lose like usual. I haven't played in a year, but no biggie, who has.
Supposed to be warm fri/sat, so i could be down for either night. let me know if you'll be around.

A fuckin SICK wine I had tonight at work, this shit is unbelievable, and comes in at a whopping 15.5% alcohol, its a big one...........:lostit
Michael David Vineyards, Earthquake Petite Sirah 2004, Lodi California
Powerful Titan, arms reaching for sky,
Earthbound devourer, open your eyes!
Throw off your blankets, the day has begun,
Indulge yourself in warm Lodi sun.
Take what is given, the world is your own,
enjoy your dominion, you sit on the throne.
Stand and be noticed, grape without peer,
Instruct in the others what they should fear.
Raise up your standard, proclaim your rights,
Answer to no one, conquer with might.
Hail the victor, the king without flaw,
Salute your new master...Petite Sirah
Up front blueberry syrup, black cherry and coffee bean shake up the senses, finishing with warm cigar box cedar and vanillan flavors. Brawny, solid tannins send aftershocks down the throat creating a seemingly endless finish. When all is said and done this Petite Sirah leaves its mark of destruction, leaving teeth and glasses stained of its inky dark color.

You cannot go wrong with a wine named "Castello Banfi" or "Brunello di Montalcino"
Always quality...they are usually very expensive, but the ones I posted are good value, between $10-20
Mondavi is always a good choice.
