I posted this a while ago on the Philly techno board that I am registered with, and thought I would share with you guys too.....
There is one thing in this world that all you non-philly peeps should know:
Dont ever mess with a Philly person when it comes to making cheesesteaks
So, one day, Agent thought he would be slick and challenge me to a cheesesteak making contest.....and we had a non-partial judge to eat and decide whos cheesesteak making skills were superior ;)
Now, I will admit that since we are living in Barcelona now, conditions are not exactly condusive to making a proper cheesesteak, but we managed to find a decent butcher to get the proper meat - dont ask me what it is called in spanish, because I have no clue - I had our roomate tell the guy what we needed since our roomate speaks the language. Since cheesewiz is non-existant here, we had to use gouda, which actually doesnt taste half bad when it's melted......and we do not have a big griddle here like your average cheesesteak joint - only a medium size frying pan and a smaller one. Oh, and when I asked in the bakery for amaroso rolls, the person at the counter gave me the deer in headlights look. Ok, so I went with small baguettes that kind of look like amaroso rolls instead.....they did the job - and didnt taste half bad either ;)
I uploaded pictures from this little contest of ours and thought I would share.......all you non-philly people on this board - watch and learn
