They now have a DNC list for cell phones. As most of the board knows, I am a mortgage broker, and a DNC list really hurts business. Putting all emotions, and judgements aside about the specific people in this business, or most sales business, I ask this question. Do you feel the DNC lists effect the economy?

How much % of sales are from cold calling?

Sometimes peace of mind for a society as a whole is more important than a certain industries bottom line. Plus, I would reccomend spending that time, effort and money into other forms of marketing like ads (magazines/newspapers/internet/billboards) and interviewing focus groups (i.e. College students that need housing, young professional, corporate leasing for consultants - all people you can reach at fairs and events, etc)... less intrusive methods than coldcalling people randomly .....

Its tough for me to take the emotion out of it, lol, cause Ive been on both ends ... 1) hate the constant calling i get from CC companies, etc both on my cellphone and home, and 2) I interned at smith barney and literally had to use a listing of thousands of business to cold call to pitch credit lines, i got one meeting setup for my vp for every 5,500 FUCK YOU HANGUPS........ lol

I am not sure of any numbers. Sales is a huge industry, but I agree with you, and peace of mind. When the 10 major telemarketing companies went up against teh supreme court to figt the DNC, they were obvioulsy shot down. Why, because 7/10 owners were on the DNC list themselves. I dont know if it would help or drive people crazy. I am just curious to see what other people think. Could it help our economy with jobs, and spending. Buying more american products, and services? Is i t worth the head ache to improve conditions?

Yeah, it def effects my business. I am def past the cold calling days, but if the DNC list was banished I would start cold calling myself. It is more difficult bc there are only 150,000 names not on the dnc list in ny. All of those people must get zillions of calls. I have run campigns where thos people were called, and they called me back ready to start ww3 on the phone wiht me....lol

But does this effect lots of other companies? Roofing companies, to sales companies, to delis, and restaurants, etc etc. Most inexpensive forms of selling are being rid of. (Fax Blasting, Telemarketing).

considering all the shadey deals that went down in the mortgage business due to the typical cold calling-based businesses, this is a good thing for the economy

The same can be said when stocks were hot in late 90's
There is a list for a reason people do not want to be bothered by someone cold calling them for sales.. If people did not want/join list there would be no list
so i doubt its hurting the economy

I think its a natural motion the selling business is taking because of, as always, consumer demand. The way the consumer uses, is the way the seller will follow. The more access consumers have to information, choices, competition, the harder it is for telephone salesmen to make money, so why not give in and go with the flow? Online leads, tie-ins, etc... there are so many other ways to get leads nowadays that its not healthy to stick to old ways anyway. It's just natural to do away with it eventually. Think of why the do not call registry came about, because of consumers. They don't want to be called by third parties. If you want their business, tie yourself into the companies that already do business with them somehow. It has to come from the b2b end. Consumers always run the trends. The economy will remain healthy as long as consumers get their way.

chop shops rely on people who have no clue, being sold a lie.....like the gypsy, medicine sellers of the early 1900's....period.....i was in financial in the 90's, laughing my ass off at the chop shop nimrods on wall st when shit hit the fan, meanwhile, real investors, people who actually had an education and far from the class of boiler room jerkoffs are still smiling to this day
