Based on the comic book, "Daredevil" they pretty much stayed true to the Marvel comic with the exception of changing King Pin from a fat white mobster guy into a big black guy, actually, the big black guy from The Green Mile which although it's horrible to type cast actors, how can you hate the big lug from The Green Mile, but in this movie you are supposed to, so with that, it was kind of weird. There was some great little parts by some favorites such as Jon Farveau (Swingers, Rudy, Made, Very Bad Things), Kevin Smith (Aka Silent Bob and known for making such movies as Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Vulgar, Silent Bob and Jay) and Ralphie from the Sopranos as the Reporter. There were only 2 things that really bothered me about the movie, the far fetched love between Daredevil and Elektra.. They had JUST met and maybe known each other a couple days and it was already "love".. c'mon. Also, Elektra and Daredevil ARE human and some of their leaps in their action sequences were just a little too out of control.
A lot of people tried to compare this movie to Spiderman but if anything I think they tried to go more of a Batman style, especially some of the theme'd music playing through-out it and after all, Batman and Daredevil are both men who are normal by day and vigilante's by night.
The casting for this movie was well done. Jennifer Garner as Elektra - two words - simply breath-taking (is that techinally 3 words? lol).. Ben Affleck (Mr. J.Lo or B.Lo) was enjoyable in this movie as he is in every movie, we luff Ben. And what can I say about COLIN FARRELL AS BULLSEYE the IRISH ASSASIN WITH HIS REAL IRISH ACCENT, omg omg omg omg omg omg .. the little part he really did have made the movie worth it, he played his character well! All in all I give the movie a B-

I don't like many of the reviews of the recent marvel movies because they don't take into account the translation factor and how true to the comic they intend to stay. Gone are the days of movies loosely based on the comic which left the comic fans disenchanted when the movie was over. This new breed of Marvel movies are perfect translations and I think to get the best experience you should be a little read-up on the character beforehand at least. Even purist fans of the characters used (the harshest critics) walk away content with what the movie has done. And those purist comic fans are the only ones I will ask for a critique of these movies.
The far fetched jumps and slightly above-human abilities of Daredevil and Elektra stay true to the comic and are rightfully included. And they weren't trying to go after a batman style, they were going after a Daredevil style. And what a PERFECT KINGPIN. When I first heard he was cast I thought it was genious, even though he's black.
Just like the lengthy background that was required to give the full meaning of why the Hulk is the Hulk was also a necessary component (vs many who said the Hulk dragged because they spent a lot of time giving background on Hulk's anger stemming from his father - this is a very crucial component). And others complained that the Hulk was animated instead of them using a real human to depict the Hulk. The Hulk is supposed to be inhuman and the size of a city block when fully enraged, and I'm sorry you can't do that with a real human and he is not supposed to look like a real human when he's that size.
Not to stray from the Daredevil movie at hand but just wanted to give another example of why these movies should not be subjected a critique without taking into account the intentions of the creators to stay as true-to-comic as they possibly can, a job well done on every new marvel comic movie made in the past few years.

very well written and thought out response, i like. hey, not everyone reads comics and all that though, so not everyone is going to have the same response and i dont think everyone should read up on a comic before seeing a movie, im sure it would help but thats a little ridiculous to expect.

It's not necessarily a requirement but it makes the experience so much better when you know what the characters abilities are about originally. It should be necessary though for the critics to take it into account before putting any of these movies up against a traditional film, when that is not what the point is.

also, i stated that about batman because a lot of people are comparing it to spiderman and honestly if anything i would say more towards batman, not the storyline or the plot, but the style of the movie, and who the fuck said that was a bad thing, personally, i own all 3 batmans and altho the first is my favorite, i enjoy those movies and i also enjoy the film scores by the composer danny elfman and if anything in my eyes me saying what i said was complimentary to daredevil.

Well, I totally see your point there about that, and it would be a good idea, too bad they couldn't release a small background film describing the actual comic before the movie, instead of the previews :) anyways, only in a perfect world..
