I agree, until now all the good athletes have been steered towards playing baseball, football and basketball but in the past few years you see alot more people playing soccer.
On a side note, anyone heard about the metro stars getting their own stadium built?

more kids play soccor than any other sport in the U.S.
I played as a kid...I was actually pretty damn good. made the NY State Select team as a goalie when i was 12. The goalie that played in front of me actually had played a few games in the MLS and another kid on my team holds the NCAA scoring record when he played at fordham and i believe is on the new england team in MLS. the success of soccer within the US is contigent on the collective success of the national team. if the US team somehow finds itself at the semis or better of the WC -- watch out!!!

true alot of young kids play soccer but most get steered towards other sports in high school and college, but that will soon change.

yes soccer has always been popular here in the US in the youth programs...
reason in the past it never was big as everyone got older was because of the lack of a professional league... but ever since the MLS has been around the popularity has gone up...
one great example (correct me if I am wrong)... is nike giving this 14 year old (from MD) a contract... this would have never ever happened b4 the mls... or b4 the 1994 World Cup
