Went last summer, stayed at the Ritz,
Visited the ESJ Hotel....Go to El Yunque, Eat at Pikayo (this is a must, call for reservations), went to the Water Club, go downtown to Old San Juan for lot of good shopping and outlets too.

For restaurants, eat at al dente (small italian restaurant in old san juan)
Food and hotels are overpriced in san juan...El san juan (ESJ) has the best pool area and walk to the beach...You cant beat the weather in san juan...ESJ has a palms steak resturant, and few others in side...For nightlife, Saturday is the nite and the club in ESJ is the best, Brava, dress to the tens...Other nites were much slower as friday as well...Next door is the water club (hotel as well) the club is on top of the hotel but wasnt busy....Old san juan has a few club/lounges....
ESJ is where everyone flocks to stay and nitelife but the hotel itself is nice but overpriced...

my bf and i stayed at las casitas, which is attached to el conquistador for my birthday in june, and we had a great experience. the spa is lovely, the restaurants although a little limited in the resort, were excellent. i would definitely recommend seeing the private island and visiting vieques while your there. we didn't get to do much b/c he surprised me with the trip last minute, but it was a gorgeous resort. and Diorgirl is right- definitely check out the irridescent bay, we heard nothing but raves about it from other guests.

the best part about the ATV ride threw the rain forest is halfway threw you stop and swim in a river in the middle of the rain forest and the water is fucking perfect, like I never wanted to get out, it's something I'll always have a clear picture of in my head. Now everywhere I go I see if I can do something on an ATV.

its funny the water by the hotels, old and new, are not the crystal clear water...the crystal clear ocean is supposedly on the other other side of the island...

I booked a trip for end of March and cannot wait! Staying at the San Juan Water & Beach Club in Isla Verde. El Yunque and the Bioluminescent Bay are on my To-do list! Soooo exited!I was looking at El Conquistador but it seems to be far from a lot of the other attractions.
I think I want to do the tourist-y PR trip first and then stay in Vieques the 2nd time around.
