Penfolds Wines Cabernet Sauvignon Bin 407 Barossa Valley
http://www.barossa.com.au/images/collection/2004-release/bin-407-cabernet-sauvignon.jpg
Nose: An aromatic, active and distinctly Cabernet
Sauvignon nose leaps out of the glass. Wafts of
Asian spices, dried lemongrass, star anise and
blackcurrant arise with air, dusty oak notes
oscillate in and out.
Palate:
True to vintage, the palate shows natural,
mouthwatering acidity, balanced by
complimentary stylish oak and a lithe,
sinewy texture. The mid-palate is substantial;
mouthfilling, yet long and defined -
mandatory for the 100% Cabernet Bin 407
style. Cabernet tannins and a giveaway
Cabernet flavour profile show, without
astringence or greenness. We will have to
wait, but could this release rival the 1991 or
1996 bin 407?
Price: $25

SIMI Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2003 $25
A delicious Cabernet at a terrific price. Smooth, rich and juicy, with tiers of lively black cherry, wild berry and blackberry fruit that are deeply concentrated with a supple, elegant mouthfeel. On the finish the tannins show some grip and a nice dusty, cedary oak quality adds a note of complexity. Best from 2005 through 2011.
SEBASTIANI Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County 2005 $18
Tight and focused, with a firm band of dried currant, spice, cedary oak and floral notes that are complex and persistent. Drink now through 2012.
