You should get the book, its like $8 at Borders.....once you get thru the little reading section about the diet and all that crap....there is a 14 day meal plan called Phase 1 - it tells you exactly what to eat and all that....and what you should and should not eat......but pretty much no corn, rice, pasta or bread the first 2 weeks.....but you wont go thru Ketosis like you do in the Atkins and other carb restricting diets.....

me too lol

I tried this and I did not even make it thru phase I. I have succumb to the fact that I cannot control what I eat cause I just love food way too much...lol.

So whenever I feel I am gaining too much weight I just hit the gym like crazy and try to eat LESS of what I normally eat. That usually works for me lol.

ditto but I just end up gaining the weight right back. The older I get, the more I realize I need to be in the gym all year round. Not just certain months out of the year. :shuffle

It works for sure but imo it's an unrealistic diet if you have long-term goals. I prefer the Abs Diet because it is more like a lifestyle. Sobe Diet is good for losing a substantial amount of weight in a short period of time, but once you go off it, unless you plan on maintaining a similar diet (which imo is a little unrealistic to cut out carbs completely, etc), then you will likely put the weight right back on.

Good luck though!

no problem YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

the diet works but u gotta maintain the proper eating to keep it off
and exercise "the book says 20min of cardio a day" while on this diet to maximize weight loss duh u eat right and do that u dont need a book to tell u that its common senSE YESSSSSSSSSSSSS

I own the book, but never really gave it a fair shot. I remember telling Jim Heinz I was going on the South Beach diet. He's like South Beach Diet? Is that when you do a lot of ecstacy and other drugs and go dancing 5 nights a week? That would prob work.

i think the book is excellent because it is not just about foods to lose weight - it is about eating for your health & your heart. i believe the author is a Cardiologist.

also, aside from phase 1, the diet does not cut out carbs - it just cuts out bad carbs.

you will find that the south beach diet & the abs diet have very similiar principles and nutritional suggestions.

my dad and his gf cook from the south beach diet cook book all the time - not for the purpose of weight loss, but for a healthy heart, lowering cholesterol, etc. they love it.

The recipes are definitely great, but Phase I just turns me off to using the diet as a "diet" because it doesn't translate to a realistic lifestyle.

lol we never made past phase 1 though.. thats obv that really hard part. phase 3 is not really that restrictive. for many it is really helpful. especially for those who are trying to lower their cholesteroll etc, and then the weight loss is just an added bonus.

when i say it is helpful and realistic i don't mean for someone who just wants to lose 5lbs, but for someone who the diet has been receommneded by their doctor for health reasons, or for those who want to lose 20+ lbs.

the way you and i eat and go out to dinner it would clearly not be realistic lol.

Definitely true and I do agree the book is great (even though I never read it in its entirety), I just think the Abs Diet is easier and more conducive to an overall healthy lifestyle for anyone.

But you're right, the SBD is based on healthy principles.

I also hit a plateau when I was dieting hardcore although I think in my case I went a little overboard because I got down to 115 and had no business losing any more weight lol, but I was in the zone I guess. But yes, I too once felt like I couldn't even eat bad anymore, I didn't even have the desire to. What happened since then I have nooo idea lol.

Do phase 1 again and you will jumpstart your metabolism. I never did the diet but i know people who have flatlined went back to phase one and starting losing again.

less carbs=less sugar=less calories so you will def see a difference even if it is just water weight you should lose weight.

oo be careful bc from what i understand with this diet- being that its a system which starts harsh then gets easier- if you stop at like 7 days, u can blow right back up

but if u finish to the end, the results tend to stick for a while.
