It's only a matter of time before NYC will be completely owned by foreigners. my prediction is that the economy will plummet, and building owners will be forced to sell their properties.

i don't think its a bad thing that foreigners..especially from the middle east buy styuff in manhattan. Less likely to be hit w/ a terrorist attack if they have vested interests in property.

thats some radical and outside the box as well as paranoid thinking you have there but it is a shame that an iconic building such as this and a landmark/flagship building for this city is held by foreign money. the initial sale of shares to foreigners should have never happened begin with but thats a tale for a diff time.
the amount of NYC real estate shifting to the mid east is unreal. certainly not every deal is of this magnitude but id imagine that the monetary value of the other transactions on the smaller scale is well into the hundreds of billions of dollars.
the only people benefiting from our hard times are those from oil backed nations. in time when they decide to sell and make their profits they will have the market by the short and curlies.

Yeah because Al Qaeda cares about a wealth fund in Abu Dhabi lol.. these wealth funds in the UAE and Saudi Arabia are the reason Al Qaeda is so vehement and hates us for doing business with them.
Not all arabs live in the same village.
but Mike you bring up a thought.. and not attacking you because your comment might just not have been thought out this much.. but isn't it funny how the same people wanting us to drill more for domestic oil "to detach ourself from the mid-east" would support something like this. It's funny how contradictory this neo-con thinking is.. on one side its gung ho america, on the other its "you can buy this US land for the right price".. pretty sickening if you ask me.

Then whos to say Exxon will stop drilling in Saudi Arabia and start drilling here instead if they're allowed to? Why do people insist that opening up drilling here will make us independent? Do they plan on socializing oil? It's bullshit, correct?

Only if the government tacks on crazy tariffs to the oil companies for importing their oil to us, but thats never gonna happen.

You don't think it would give us more leverage w/ the exxon's if the millions of barrels of oil which we are dependant on is coming from our land rather than in the middle east?
+ simple supply & demand comes into effect...

not unless those barrels are under control by the government, which will never happen here.. an oil company doesn't have borders.. they grab more land, build their stockpiles, price still stays high, saudi arabia still gets drilled, etc... nothing changes.
Which brings us back to the topic of this thread... Given that you think something like adding domestic drilling gives us leverage: where does that leverage go when our property becomes majority owned by foreigners?

I'm def no neo-con and I'm for drilling, I don't know of anyone who says drill for oil is saying this is a good thing. I'd love to know where you heard this? Just remember it was traditional conservatives led by Michael Savage that ended the Dhubai ports deal.

because someone will always do something if theres a profit involved. It's not just exxon-mobil that's drilling for oil. happens everyday in every industry

I'm not saying its a good thing that we are being bought up...
but do you think the Chyrsler Building is more likely or less likely to be the target of a terrorist attack now?
These oil rich nations in many way have an "understanding" that their shit is off limits...
