I've been feeling dizzy/lightheaded at the gym lately, especially after stretching. The only thing I've changed with my workout is upping the reps (from 10-12, 5 sets). Does anyone know what may be causing this? Should I be concerned or just shake it off?

Really? I like to do my cardio on an empty stomach though.
I was told it's because I'm not getting enough oxygen. Can anyone confirm?

I have about 24-32oz of water while I'm at the gym.
There is no way I'm going to wake up at 4:30am to have a shake. 5am is hard enough.

your blood sugar levels are probably falling off the charts.
You get some of the same effects that a diabetic can get, obviously though they are temporary.
you need to eat something before the gym, it's a really bad idea to work out on an empty stomach.

Def has nothing to do with oxygen. if your breathing... your getting enough oxygen.
it has everything to do with the fact that you have no food in your system. your blood sugar is on the floor.
its an old wives tale about doing anything on an empty stomach. its all bullshit.
doing excersice on an empty stomach will get you a nice black out and wind up in a hospital gurny.
eat in the am's before your workouts your not burning more fats, if anything your just burning up tons of muscle doing that.

lol honestly your only cheating yourself ... go with at least a good 12oz. shake as soon as you wake up or about 30-45 minutes before you go to the gym ... put in a few scoops of protein along with some fruit (bannas, strawberries, whatever floats your boat) and you will get the nutrients your body needs and it will greatly increase the efficiency and effectiveness of your workout.

I definitely don't want to cheat myself and if I can increase the efficiency and effectiveness of my workout, I guess I'll be hitting the sack half an hour earlier so I can have a shake.

its ok if you dont eat before your work out if thats your edge...BUT you should definitely be drinking lots of water before, during and after your workout if your getting lightheaded... make sure you eat something after you workout, even if its something small...you need to replenish your muscles with glucose..im sure you dont want to burn your muscle for energy.

ehhhhh.. Info... Ehhhhh no..not quite.
eat before you work out, if you want to keep your blood sugar levels consistent.
Chances are lightheartedness is NOT from dehydration rather from your sugar levels being already low from AM cycles, not eating and doing a work out is pushing them even further. Oatmeal in the AM when you first wake up wait 1 hour then work out. Tell me if your not even with blood sugar levels all day.
you would eat protein after your work out to keep a positive nitrogen balance within the muscles. Glucose is used to transport proteins, and break down aminos, repair torn muscle tissue. A simple sugar drink immediately after your workout (like OJ, or Grape juice) spikes your insulin and helps release more growth hormone into the blood stream. You wouldn't burn muscle for energy if you ate before your workout, that's not an edge thats actually a hindrance. You would power thru your work outs and have energy left for the rest of your day with a solid breakfast.. something that looks like:
Oatmeal, WHey shake, berries, and 2 large glasses of water. wait a good hour tho cause your body needs some time to situate the oatmeal its a little heavy.
there is 2 sure fire ways to burn muscle, 1 not eating enough protein, or enough food in general , or a restriction of calories and then trying to work out too.
2)doing long bouts of cardiovascular workouts such as marathon running with little or no strength training mixed into your routine.

I thought if you work out on an empty stomach your body burns more fat? Once the body runs out of sugar in the blood itll start burning fat while the liver and muscles release glycogen to replenish the blood sugar supply, no?

i find this to be a wives tale. doing excersice on an empty stomach thats cardio based may burn some fat, but actually lifting progressive weights your body needs ample glycogen, your muscles are half depleted from your sleep cycle. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ketogenic_diet
when you have no carbs in your system your body when it uses up its blood sugar stores is supposed to swith from carbs to fat for enegy this is becoming ketosis. however this is in my opinion not optimal for fat burning and not optimal for muscle maintance.
The thing here is you want to always keep your muscles in a positive nitrogen balance. yes you can burn some fat in the am on an empty stomach but you will also burn muscle .and thats a major no no. the trick to staying lean all your round is to harvest and KEEP as much muscle on your body at all times. this is done by constant feedings of protiens and carbs, along with training. THink about it what happens if you run your car on E? you will stall eventually its the same thing with foods and training. you can workout and not drink water youll probably wind up in the hospital, and you can go do long workouts without food but the point of this post was lightheadedness. I speak from experince i have diabetes in my family, and I mysely am hypoglycemic working out with no food could put me on my ass.
so yes in theory empty stomach can work, but there is much safer and more effective ways to get there to strip fat. Honestly this is the best way to strip fat and keep it off..
