So I have insurance.. i guess.. under my dads insurance but i never used it and im not even sure what it covers.. but I think i'm going blind. I never had glasses or anything but lately seeing the board at school has become a problem, also when I get off the computer after doing homework or reading I cannot focus things far away. Driving and reading signs has become an issue as well, and reading my blackberry stresses my eyes lately too. I don't know if I am really going blind or if my eyes are just lagging on the focusing part.. anyway..

what do i doooooo!!!!! I don't know how eye exams go, or insurance, or what I should do. I made an appt with a friends eye doctor, do I bring something? What questions should I ask. I haven't been to the doctor since I was in 10th grade so I am kind of clueless. Is there anywhere I can go to get a free eye-exam so I don't have to pay doctor's fee's if im really not blind at all and Im just being overdramatic? But I really think I need some type of glasses.. just when I need to read things far away. :hmmm =( i sad.

ahhh you dooo!! ok so ill see you saturday at boris and ask you. I made my appt for tuesday morning. I wish I could just go to a random highschool like they did during those school checkups and ask you if the apple was on the table or under the table.

Jen

DONT go to a OPTOMETRIST. Go to an Ophthalmologist. They will bill through your medical insurance. You might just have a copay depending on what kind it is...

And, you probably will need glasses unless your blurry vision is from something medically. Have you ever had your pupils dilated?

You dont need to ask any question. They will ask you. Just make an apt and say you have blurry vision.

thats an optometrist lol

diff is less schooling. and OD can only prescibe scripts for glasses, contacts etc. whereas the other will check the health of your eye. If you havent been to a eye doctor in that long its better u go to the better one. and the other reason is that the Ophth. will bill yoiur medical ins bc he checks the health of your eye. sometimes optomoetrist will rape u with money and extra fees and what not

dilating your pupils lets the Dr. check in back of your eye. and it is nec for everyone to atleast have that once a year. your vision will be blurry and your eyes sensitive to light for a few hours.

just jess

i have a separate vision insurance than my health insurance
u might want to make sure ur medical insurance covers vision
chances are if ur covered u might get away with your 1 free check up i think

yup.. if she has vision then she can go to the optometrist

however you dont nec need vision coverage to go to an ophth. bc since they are checking the health of youir eye.. they bill the insurance with medical diagnosis therefore its covered under regular medical not vision.

Yea they might be ok, def get that fixed though.

As for your eyes, its weird, as you get older they will get worse, so stay on top of them now. And being on the computer or using it alot can cause you to develop vision problems.

And since your still under your dad's insurance see if his insurance covers Lasik. Once you have a prescription for over a year (glasses) and are a candidate, you can get it done. I am def going to look into getting it done in a year or two.

i hate wearing my glasses b/c i get all off balanced if i look up or down, and not through the lenses ... it's very hard for me to walk down stairs with my glasses on ... maybe it's bc i don't wear them on a regular basis and i have to get used to them :hmmm i've had them for 4 years and have worn them less then 10 times :shuffle

perepherial (sp?) vision.

you're so used to your contacts covering your entire pupil so you can see your entire surroundings, that when you put on your glasses you can really only see half of what's around you. If you look up, down, left, and right with your glasses your eyes will strain.

Reason #1 why i don't like wearing glasses.

i dont like wearing glasses either. same thing happens to me with the stairs lol. the only time i wear them is to give my eyes a rest from my contacts.

maybe u just havent found the right brand of contacts? because ive tried some that made me wanna scratch my eyes out. my eye doctor gives me free pairs of different brands to try out for a few days before i committ to ordering a 6month or year supply. u should try out some dif brands :agree

well my problem is putting the contact in my eye. i just cant do it. it takes me like a half hour. i haaate having to touch my eye. i dont wake up early enough to have the time to do that every day lol so pretty much ive just been walking around dealing with the blurry vision until recently when it started to get much worse

ull get used to it.. it used to take me like 30 min to get mine in, now it takes me about 30 seconds lol.

only advice i have is that as long as ur hands are clean, put them in any freakin way you want and dont worry about doing it the way they teach u bc IMO they make it way more difficult then it needs to be.

i hear you, it's tough w/ no insurance, but people should get to the dr. before something's wrong. it's actually cheaper that way than waiting until you got a serious problem.

you're actually better off w/ glasses if your vision is only a little bit off. you will worsen your eyesight if you wear the lenses more often than you need. your eyes become dependent. it's better if you take the glasses on/off as you need as opposed to contacts which are in all day :agree

there are contacts that you can actually sleep with and have on for up to 5 days straight. I'm not saying wear them for five days straight all the time, but they're designed to bring more oxygen flow into your eyes, and in case you do have a rough or night or so, you don't have to worry about taking them out before you fall asleep.

i know, but i would never recommend leaving anything on your eye that long. i don't care how much they "breathe" , protein and bacteria builds up if they are not taken out, cleaned, and your eyes given a rest.

that's a fast way to screw up your eyes or get an infection.

You can develop ulcers on your eyes from that. theres also proteins that build up on the lens when u do that.
