So last night I was working out with my trainer and about half way through we had to stop because I got really dizzy and thought I was going to puke my brains out and my heart started to race. This has never happened to me before. Any ideas what I can do to keep this from happening again or what could have caused it??

it's pretty normal when you're working out hard...it's not strange...

But it's never happened to me before that's what's freaking me out. Why now all of a sudden??? My trainer thought I was lying that I didn't eat before but I did and it didn't happen till I was doing step ups of all things.

maybe you've never really pushed your body in that way before....have you just started working out, or have you been doing it for a while..? ...i dont know why your trainer would think you are lying either...trainers should know that that type of shit happens....it used to happen to me sometimes especially when i hit the gym hard in the morning....it still happens to me once in a while...

when u exert to a point where enough blood leaves ur ab area to supply oxygen to the muscles at work, usually big ones and large groups so if ur doing legs chances are higher than other muscle groups... nausea/vomiting is a result.

i dot find it healthy at all i dont care how great it conditios my muscles. vomiting throws off electrolytes which is bad for moods and concentration (stable, calm nerve function is disrupted and i dont react well to it). if and when i throw up for anything im a cunt for a good 2 weeks. first few days i want to rip my skin off and choke pple with it.

some pple love it go figure. mild workouts are great for me lol.

i think feeling nauseous and throwing up are fine.

to the original posters, did you eat before you worked out?

Exercise moves blood into the muscles, and away from the intestinal tract/stomach. So if you have half-digested food sitting in there still, and then exercise vigorously, it can come back up. Slow digesters or people who are more naturally inclined to vomit are obviously more at risk.

when u throw up it takes up to 2 weeks to restore the mucous that protect your stomach lining from digestive acids. this protective mucous doesn't even exist in the esophagus.

this is what they give u when the acids eats away at your lining, sans ulcer

I ate an hour before...and I didn't have a huge meal. Tomorrow I'm going to give myself 1.5 hours to digest and pray for the best!!! LOL

Are you hypoglycemic maybe? This happens to me, I get really dizzy. I actually passed out in kickboxing once.
