So.. I want to join a gym (i guess), but none of my friends like to work out =( what gym does everyone here go to?

When I lived in Brooklyn I went to Dolphin and I loved it cuz it was 24/hrs and all the guidos went during the day so I would go like 2am and it was me and a few older dudes and thats it. (i get really self-conscious at the gym I hate when ppl stare at me or try to talk to me while im working out) but I refuse to join an all womens gym because its usually reallllllllllllllllllyyyyyyyy heavy women and older ladies.. I like a gym where its a combination of young people, but mixed girls & guys evenly (so gold's im not really feeling, its like dolphin fitness on roids imo)

Now that summers coming I basically want to get a redic body and am not sure how to go about doing this.. join a gym and get a trainer, or just buy a treadmill and work out at home and ride a bike and rollerskate when I want to switch up routine.. I'm naturally pretty fit and my body responds very fast to working out so I don't really need to do any hard core training, and im happy with my body but I know if i just worked out a bit i wud feel a lot better in those outfits I have to wear at work :shuffle

i feel the same way about the gym. i feel totally self conscious there and hate when people look at me so i try to go on Sundays when its deaddd. my gym is also 24 hrs but i have yet to go in the middle of the night because i dont keep that kind of schedule.

anyway, i am prob in the same boat as you so here is what i do... i saw a trainer a couple times and i think i am going to sign up for 3 more sessions since i dont need any serious work but i like having her to tell me what to do and show me the right way to do things. other than that i just do pilates/yoga and run on the treadmill for cardio. i am going to toss my bike in the mix pretty soon and that will be the extent of my working out because i am also generally fit and my body responds very quick to exercise. i have only been working out a few weeks and feel/see the difference already.

it depends on what you want to do. if u wanna lose weight, diet and do cardio.
if u want to build muscle, do some strength training and lift weights

24 Hour Fitness on MAdison and 25th has great promotions. It was the last gym I worked out at before I moved out of the city. They have more cardio machines than most gyms I've seen, a heavy bag/boxing room, as well as good trainers and classes.

By far the most reasonable price-wise of any gym I've tried in the city

hm maybe NYSC or Equinox?
honestly u have an awesome body already, i don't think u need to waste money on a trainer .. maybe just for a couple of sessions just so they can show u some exercises if u aren't familar w/ doing it on ur own

i go to a gym in queens and i hate it...i always feel like all of the meatheads are staring at you and judging you...

when i was in the city, i used to belong to golds gym...i had a pretty good deal and it was on 53rd and 8th and nobody really bothered you...

i wanted to join a gym kinda by port authority cuz that would be the most convenient (i live in north bergen and its closer for me to go into the city for the gym then to go to one in nj) i was thinking nysc but they are so expensive, i joined crunch many moons ago and ended up canceling it because going to the gym 3 days a week didnt justify the $85 mthly fee to me, and tips on how to sweet talk them down to a lower price?

thats probaly your best bet if you dont like those aspects of the gym you mentioned. Just join a gym that has a lot of classes and you wont have to worry about being harrassed or stared at cause the classes are usually all girls and if giuys are in it they are too busy doin the workout and routine to stare or try to talk to you. Im sure youll still get stared at and thats the price you pay for being pretty i guess...........good luck...

If your just looking to get in a little better shape, just run outside, the weather is nice. And buy some dumbells and workout at home. When it colder out, join the gym. But if your not disciplined you might need a gym to keep you motivated to keep at it.

My brother works at crunch, and the one he works at is mainly all girls. It is near NYU, and I am not sure if that works for you, but I can find out some prices if you would like.

There is an NYSC on 41st right down the block from Port Authority, but you have to go really early in the AM or after 630 bc its packed from 500 to 7, and you will be waiting forever for machines.

you haven't tried work out world in fairview, nj? its not so bad its cheap, like $40 and change a month its open 24 hours my schedule is jacked up so im there at odd hours- middle sometimes early afternoon or late nights and its not crowded no wierdos. they have one in north bergen too, I went there once when they had the all these power outage and fairview was closed - it was ok but I like the fairview one better. the food spot there is really good.
