View Full Version : food diary
i haven't done one of these in years. well now im going to figure out what i am thinking and what actually happens.
my goals:
-build my protein intake to 100 grams a day, firm
-get a solid feel of my macronutrient ratio
so im recording what im eating, calories, protein, fat, carbs.
i want to add sodium and potassium counts to the mix, but potassium isnt listed on all food labels :grumble
should i keep a fiber count? i feel so confident with my fiber intake so im on the fene with calculating that too
i got a little fliptop notebad in lime green for $.99 and so far i downed 480 cals (healthily)
any tips?

I think thats a great idea. I keep a record of everything I eat on fitday.com. I've been slacking a little bit lately when I run short on time but I know how many calories, protein, carbs, fat I consume every single day. You should post everything on here too. There are some great people on here with a ton of knowledge. I think that may help you out with suggestions plus keep you motivated to keep doing it.

I signed up for this & it's awesome. DO IT. It even converts everything into percentages on a chart so you can see how the protein, carbs & fat add up. Thanks Chris :heythere
i would just watch the carbs/sugar/sodium/fat intake. drink plenty of h20 throughout the day (a gallon).

i cant drink a gallon of water a day without having the urge to sprinkle salt directly into my mouth.
i don't find 16 cups of water a day healthy. not happening...

yeah totally. i have a back injury so im physically cutting corners and less calories are being burned. i figure it would be easier to figure out how to cut the calorie consumption and note my errors etc... mentaly alone it isn't going to happen for me. but i dont want to gain weight this way. i already feel it
th online thing isn't going to work for me. im doing the math on my own with a pencil and pad. i can access it more easily... beleive it or not i do not hve access to a computer all the time
up to you, just a suggestion.

there nothing worng with drinking a gallon of water a day healthwise...
ple always bring up things like "drinking too much water isno good"
you arent going to drink too much water unless you are doing an exteme amount in a short period of time, like the story pple always bring up..
Girl on a radio show drank 3 gallons in like under 30 mins and died from it...from water toxicity or something(i forget whats its called)

someone told me that if u drink too much water u might drain the nutrients you ingest before your body can absorb them.
i could see where this is true

false. i eat a shitload of good food n never had a problem with nutrients being drained. where did that someone get that fact from?

there are 2 parts to this. You are correct in a way. You shouldn't drink much if anything while eating or shortly after. It won't wash them away but it will lessen the effect of the enzymes which help break down and digest all the food properly which turns it into energy and so forth. It's actually much more detailed but I don't feel like typing it all out. You won't technically lose vitamins or nutrients but they may be a little harder for your body to process and absorb.
The moral of this story. enzymes aren't scuba divers. watch the fluid intake while eating.

I like food diaries. I grade myself at the end of the day and then I know what to eat and what not to eat.
It helps, keeps me balanced. Also, because I don't want to write bad shit down, so it "psychologically" keeps me eating healthy.
