well, this is a New York board with a handful of Jews, and 9/11 is fresh in the minds of many. Plus, darius for example is iranian, so would have beef w/different arab contingencies and i'm 1st generation american w/israeli parents so I've just got beef w/arabs period, etc etc.

You DO realize thats as bad as being anti-semitic or anti-Jew.

If without merit, absolutely. But the cited anti-Arab environment you feel is here is based on world events and specific actions of Arabs.
It's not as if we all woke up disliking Arabs one day.

i'll give u an example of a popular arab i like -- Abu Mazen, the guy that tried his luck as palestinian PM. i mean, realistically, from the get-go, i knew he wasn't gonna be able to get shit done. not his fault either, but i think he has a lot of great ideas. i think he made the right decision to step down from the political forefront. i don't want to turn this into a political debate though.
just cuz someone is an american doesn't make them a freedom-loving, freedom-protecting, wonderful person. they could be the most hardened sheep-screwin, racist, prick-bastard, son-of-a-bitch walking the face the globe. and not every arab or arab muslim is a jew-hating, western-hating, terrorist, camelfucker.
i think that maybe anti-arab sentiment present on this board should be clarified to some degree.
IF, the perception of the arab world is characterized by those most visible to us, namely political leaders, religious leaders, suicide bombers, terrorists, etc, then isn't it completely understandable (and no, i don't mean justified, just making the claim one could see how that perception arises) for someone's "vision" to be blurred from seeing any of the good qualities that an arab could/would possess? yes, people should be looked upon as individuals and judged by their deeds . . . in a perfect world. many of us strive to do it that way, we really, honestly do, but we're not perfect, far from it and our prejudicial demons aren't completely exorcized. but goddamnit, do u have any clue how many arabs i've spoken with who actually try to slyly justify 9/11 to me -- as if dropping a subtle hint that they condone what happened?
wtf . . . they want to follow the Koran, and "slay the infidels", but they also want to get piss drunk in the VIP room at various DC clubs (which i'm sure u're familiar with), have a ho on each arm, sniffin coke in the backroom, pimpin the phattest benz or beamer cuz their uncle is sultan or a shiek or whatever else -- and then blame the deterioration of their homeland on jews and americans. then hit up the mosque on friday and come out thinking they smell like roses . . . well, either that or Aqua de Gio. how absurd is that?
the reality of all of this is that the moderate muslim or moderate arab voice in very muted right now, and until that changes by gaining empowerment, its very unmotivating for many in the western world to seek out those good qualities and establish more positive ties.

Darius: yeah, I guess that makes sense. Well put.
BTW, I don't know if you sent me a PM - it says I have one message but when I go into my inbox its empty. Anyone know how to fix this? I also alerted Dmitry.
That message is probable in your SENT folder. Check it there.
As for the Arabs I like. Too many to list them all but if I were to pick a Palestinian it would be Ashrawi. I know manyJews don't think much of her but she is heads above Arafat and if she were the leader the Palestinians would probably have their own country and worrying about export/import rules and how to get their "DOW" index up. :)

darius is again on point. i've spent time in the arab quarter of the old city in Jerusalem speaking with israeli arabs . .one in particular was very memorable as he admitted to me that he very recently and for his whole life HATED all jews and wanted to kill them and this and that . .but he changed his views and we had a good talk .. whatever.
anyways, the point is that i don't hate all arabs . . no . .and i don't think all arabs hate jews . .although anti-semitism does absolutely seem to be much more institutionalized in that culture . . .ex: the anti-semetic text in the koran and in the schools today
i mean, just read the arab press. go to memri.org and see what they're saying . . ..
