a term to describe a moment when somethin that was once great has reached a point where it will now decline in quality and popularity. Origin of this phrase comes from a Happy Days episode where the Fonz jumped a shark on waterskis. Thus was labeled the lowest point of the show.
Cousin Oliver on Brady Bunch, Scrappy Doo.

That's mostly right. It actually means the point of the show where it became absurd or ridiculous- not where it reached it's height of popularity. Those could be 2 separate points in the show.
A show could have already reached it's height of popularity, started it's decline, and then the show could do something out of desperation (i.e. add a ridiculous character) to make it jump the shark.

With that said I don't think it has done so, I just think it got a bit complacent. If they dig their heels, put some heart into it, they could put it right back where it was.

I think of family guy as a Magic show.......

Somehow these guys tricked everyone into thinking anything about this show is/was ever remotely funny.......I actually cant think of a show that's more not funny......

The Patron Saint of Shark Jumping :floor

He joined three shows after their height (The Love Boat, Happy Days, and Dynasty) and was a replacement on Married with Children.

At some point you just run out of ideas. I actually had no clue Family Guy was still on making new episodes. And I watch a lot of TV, lol.

Worst jumping the shark ever for me was the final season of Oz. It was embarrassingly desperate and bad...
