What type of rate are you finding? I see someone won Luxor on Priceline bid for $70 for that night.
If you're looking to stay on the cheap side I enjoyed my stay at Excalibur.. Perfect location and although the rooms were not "nice", they served their purpose.
I've read a lot of reviews on Luxor, in general I think there are both renovated and non renovated rooms so make sure you know what you're getting. I think the rooms go for about $40 a night on non-holiday nights so you can maybe use that to compare.

i was just at luxor in august
pool is chill and free, you can bring your own drinks, which suited me, short walk from the pool to once of those drink stands
rooms are not nice, lol
tables were unlucky as well

middle of the strip? That shit is way on the end. I would say bellagio/ceasars is more in the middle.

mandalay is the last hotel on the strip and luxor is the second to last
if you want to go to the wynn/encore or anywhere further youll need to cab it
id stay at caesars, that place was pretty awesome
I stayed at the Luxor my first time in Vegas (8 years ago) and it was good. But, if you're looking for a cheaper stay i'd go for the Monte Carlo, can't beat the location and it's not half bad.

I think planet hollywood has some great deals and has a younger crowd. Fairly new nicely set up rooms. Monte Carlo, Flamingo, Luxor, etc. have a MUCH older crowd and although you probably won't spend that much time in the hotel, it's nice going downstairs for breakfast and not seeing people drool while eating oatmeal smoking their Paul Malls.
