Just to let everyone know about this party at STAR. Vinny Rue and myself will NOT be playing there. They have called off the night as of now and I will let you know if they do the right thing as far as payment to the DJ's they have booked and locked into dates. I informed them how small of a community this scene is and lets see if they do the right thing. If not, Vinny or myself will let you know who these people are and the parties they throw so you do not go down and support them. Thanks

I never go there, and now listening to you Andy (one of the old timer), I believe so I will never ever go there then.
Its really a lots of INDIANS there ?
So like Clubs in Vancouver Canada, that have a lot of Indian, Pakistani & Bengala desh. That is what make the CURY smells in that basemen club.
In Vancouver Canada, those people are violent....they are consider as GANGS that carry guns. Canada is ex British Colony, that is why they have a lot of Indians from INDIA, not the American Native Indians.

Umm ..no hateration goin on here . .but i think it is pretty ridiculous to say somethin like THIS.
You guys aren't Morillo ..or Morales ..or Danny T. etc. If a party is cancelled ..it's cancelled.
Promoters don't grow $$ on trees...and they';re the ones paying you nowadays . .not the club.....with the exception of the BIG venues.
So, to expect ot get paid or get any $$ is ridiculous. IF they would have told u the night OF the party ..thennnn, I can see cause for SOME kind of consideration. Other than that, be glad they had the decency to say something ahead of time.

Well, THAT was my point. If the promoter signed that contract and it STATES that . .then by ALL means. you guys are DEF entitled to it.
I just thought he meant he THOUGHT u guys should get $$ . .even though there is no party. The fact that it WAS specified in the contract was not mentioned.
Carry on ..

btw ...rookie mistake . .no promoter in the right mind ..dealing in today's nightclub business climate should do THAT kind of contract with a DJ. it's just setting yourself up for disaster. Venues open n close ....owners are dicks ...promoters fight ..parties change etc etc. Just not smart.

Maybe its time to all the promotors, DJs , bartenders, waiters, busboys, barback, coatchecks and all other clubs workers to have a UNION.
So their job and contracts are protective, and they will get legal representative to defend them in case of dispute.
Huh... I put myself in the club owners BLACK LIST by saying this.
No clubs will hire me now ?????

reminds me of a similar situation...i was managing a nightclub in Jersey when the Owner decided to switch promoters and get rid of an amazing DJ we had.....i fought all i could to try and stop this from happening...mind you it was the night of....so i paid the dj out of my pocket just for showing up and we remained good friends to this day!!!!!
wasnt a matter of money...it was a matter of principal.

it'snot bad business. I mean . .Im not saying promoters should scumbag and run out on Djs and not tell them anything.
bottom line is ...SHIT HAPPENS. If you have any kind of decent relationship with the DJ ..dancers etc whoever you';re booking for a party and you have a LEGITIMATE reason for the party being called off and give people a few days notice once u find out. Then, I don't see it being a problem., THAT is the nature of the nightclub business.
If anything, a DJ who tried to get all ridiculous on me DEMANDING he be paid $$ even though there is no party ..would be the one to get :booted and THEY would get blacklisted. Not the other way around.
No established promoter ..for the most part ...who is in the NYC market .would pay anyone under these circumstances. That's JUSt teh way it is. I don't care what anyone says. I mean . ..everyone is losing money. The DJ can say *aww .. well, I cant play anywhere else now . .it's too late to get booed now* etc etc . .Well, the promoter is fucked TOO and not only NOT making $$ that night but losing out on money already spent on promotion and time invested int he event.
it's a VERY sticky situation.

a cancellation in any real entertainment contract is min 50% of the total fee (usually whatever the deposit is) to be paid to artist

There was a contract that is why I am pissed. Her name is Elise Caruso and I will find out the guys name. Shady shit. And you know what Vinny is right, as DJ's all of us loose tons on money per year on BS like this. Shawn Ink got jerked on his money last week, I just dont think it is fair to him and the rest of us so I am speaking up. Last thing.........I never said or pretended to be a DANNY, ERICK, or one of the monsters of this club scene but everyone needs to help one another. Danny has had my back when it came to issues at CPI and he did not have to. If I am able to help any of my peers why not? No one is acting like a superstar here but why should people go hand these promoters $$$ to listen to Vinny Rue spin when he is getting hurt by them in the end. Understand my point?

Also we gave them an extra week to send the deposit because they said they were having some problems not related to the club. We were fair by saying OK. If the promotion team wants to lock out a DJ for a date the promotion team must assume the risk at all costs. If the night works they could be the ones walking home with 15,000 in their pocket not the DJ. The DJ is supposed to get 50% of the fee if the date is canceled. All of us DJ's always help the promoters on a bad night. Just ask John D. or John Paul how many times I have taken almost nothing for a night of work. It also comes back to me 10 fold because they keep using me. It is like a good marriage. The e-mail of the promoters is BsE Club iNFO@aol.com. It is not right what they did to ANY of us and like I said we just hope we have the "CLUBBERS" support in this situation.

Yeah all the clubs owners always paid all those OVER PAID Super Star Import DJs,
because all of them have agent/manager and lawyer.
I do respect those DJs as fellow artists.
What we talking here, is the fairness to our local DJs....which are get paid so little...and yet they also get SCREWED too sometimes.

Jason...
solution is simple man.
You been around for a long time and have a well respected name in this industry. You are at a point where you really should only work with the clubs directly or with well established promoters. People you know wouldnt pull something like this, and if something did happen where they couldnt pay you(snowing outside, club doesnt open...whatever it is) then they will make it up to you.
I got the emails from BSE club ent. or whatever they are called. I called it back a few weeks ago that they seemed shady and they work in a club that has been known to be shady for years...
personally i would stay away and i warned ppl to.
Youve reached a level where you dont need these gigs that some up and coming guys who will put up with this bullshit go for. You know you will continue to get booked with the promoters you work with for years, and clubs you have worked with and new ones. People that treat you right....proffessionals.
I think you are totally entitled to $$ for this, looks like these guys decided to try and start a night and it just didnt work out. They need to learn that it takes time to build your crowd, and start booking smaller talent before more prominant djs. I didnt start off with booking the guys I do now. I actually started 4 1/2 years ago in that same room(used to be Cream) with Brutal Bill, Rich Luvv and some shmuck named Hamburg or something :shuffle
hehehe
they need to give it time to build and not bite off more than they can chew. They made the mistake of jumping the gun and even signing contracts, they should def be held liable.

Did not know anything about the room or it's history. Like I said we had a contract which is something I do not do with people like yourself. I am not sitting here crying over spilled milk but I love getting some sort of revenge. I want these people to know that we all stick together and DJ's talk to one another. If they think they will get anyone to work parties they are throwing they have another thing coming to them.

Lately I've been booked with a few of wedding gigs...in the Hotels or in the jewish temples like that.
Well it realy far from prestige....I'm A WEDDING DJ ????.... every body really look down on me. I have no choice....I'm broke...so I have to work on something, swallow my pride and do that gigs to pay my rent and my bills. In that kind of gigs mostly I only play for 2 or 3 hours, because they always have MC with all those dancers & clowns and some cover bands that sometimes play some Iraelis, Arabic or Russian Music. The Jews and The Arabs are always fighting, but on so many Jewish Wedding I saw they have Arabic bands/Singer or belly dancers.Well, after all there are actually are cousins anyway....I don't understand why they can't live together peacefully.
The payment for that kind of gigs are okay too, and those people are never cheat on you. Its a bad karma if you cheat some one on your wedding party, it will bring a bad luck (karma) to your marriage.
I hope soon I will having gigs in the clubs or lounges again.
