Too much protein will be stored as fat just as carbs would. The average weight-lifter can consume up to 40g a protein per meal, taking about an hour and 15 minutes to digest. More than that is too much. Long-term, extremely high amounts of protein can take a toll on your liver.

Protein is calories, it turns into fat if not utilized.

some argue that too much protein intake is very stressful to the kidneys and could cause problems.... and that it also may promote osteoperosis (bone disease)
i agree it may cause the kidneys to work harder, but to a healthy male it should not be a problem as long as there were no pre-existing kidney issues
i def do not agree on the osteoperosis theory, if anything i would believe the opposite, that protein (like calcium) would strengthen bones, considering all the amino's and mucle building properties it has to offer.... why would it WEAKEN bones?

no study has ever showed that a person needs more then 1g of protein per lb of body weight
so why overdue it? and risk the problems
i have never heard of protein turning to fat either sorry to disagree with u joey it seems that happens alot

woooood its fact that any extra *calories* not converted to either energy or muscle mass are converted to fat...those calories can be derived from fat, protein, or carbs it doesnt matter which...if you eat more calories than your body needs you're gonna store some as fat
think about it, if you ate nothing but protein all day long, say 10,000 calories worth...but you did nothing all day, not even break one sweat...do you really believe those thousands of extra calories wont turn into fat just because it was protein calories?

Agreed. Protein is a macronutrient so it consists of calories. Too much obviously turns into fat.
