i would worry more about wat was actually IN the gyro, rather then its nutritional content. :chuckle

i made the mistake at school last year, there was a guy on the corner selling gyros and chicken wraps for like 3 bucks. i was young, naive. so i ordered one. in about an hour after enjoying this delicious wrap with chicken, salad and tomatos, i must have spent a good 20 min in the bathroom. something in that "white sauce" that deff is a laxative. :chuckle

gryo meat is simply a blend of minced lamb and pork with a bunch of spices in it.
tzatziki sauce aka "white sauce" is just plain yogurt drained through cheesecloth to get rid of the liquid thats present in it, a shitload of garlic, and finely grated cumcumber. give or take a dash of olive oil.
and yes i'm greek :chuckle

I have no idea what that fuckin' meat is but I'm gonna take a wild guess and say its pretty awful for you. I'd probably lump that into the same category as a McDonald's hamburger patty.

as far as buying them from a street vendor, well we all know you kinda roll the dice when you get any sort of food from them.

don't get me wrong... i know what the recipe is... and i'm sure i have had the real deal before (yes i have frequented many delicious Greek restaurants)... :)
but to get it from a roach coach on a street corner, or even from a diner (i live in Westchester county)... i dunno...
it's like eating a burger at McDonald's or at a pub.... big difference....
i wouldn't eat a GYRO from just anywhere.... you know what i mean?

totally know what you mean.
i rolled the dice a few times and ended up crappin out (pun intended)
a lot of times the vendors will use what look like small bars of gyro meat.
thats prepackaged frozen stuff you can buy in stores and not stuff they're whippin up in their basements :chuckle
there's a pizza place on 63rd and 1st - sutton pizza, that is owned by greeks.
their pizza sucks but they absoultely have the best gyros and pile on the meat.
nothing worse then when they skimp.
always good to make sure you "choose wisely"

I was under the impression it was a mixture of Beef and Lamb... thats what the guy said who sold it to me....
Another good dish is Doner Kebob - Turkish equivalent to Gyro... I quit eating it though - too much indigestion
