(I'll only comment onclubs in NY ..for now)

Having worked at both ...it's a tough call for me to make.

Peter Gatien's clubs ALL had their own claim to fame in their heyday. I worked at all of them at some point, so, it's hard to pick just one.

The ORIGINAL LImelight DEFF provided MANY memories for me and I guess was MY version of *juicehead junction* in the early 90s ..the birth of extacy as a club drug ..the birth oftechno and what sprouted today's tribal/tech house scene. (Still dunno if that was a GOOD thing lol )

The Tunnel DEF was fun. The Kenny Scharf Room was AMAZING. I wish I could find pics of it. Im sure theyre out there. UNREAL. The unisex bathrooms with a DJ in it. The ball pit room. It was a GREAT space..but not one of my top faves.

It's DEF close to a tie between Palladium & USA. Palladium was my HOME for several years and where my office was based out of. SO, I have a LOT of love for that place ..even though the physical location was torn down to make way for NYU dorms. :yousuck AMAZING nights ...some of THEEEEE biggest #s put out there as far as attendance ..and it was only me and one other promoter..and our lil handful of sub-promoters. Not the ridiculousness you see now to even TRY and put the same # of people in a place like Crobar.

USA..hands-downnnnnnnnn..was IS and so far WILL be THEEEEEEE the summit ..the peak..the crest that other venues can only ATTEMPT to try to compare to. There has been NOTHING . .Imean NOTHING even CLOSE to it in over a decade in NYC ..as far as decor, creativity, design, vibe, crowd etc. I figured Crobar MIGHT have been IT ..but itnever even got close and won;'t ever reach it. Maybe PACHA ? :giveup Time will only tell.

I've never been but the ppl I speak with that are a hella lot older than I am tell me paradise garage was the best club ever built. Outside of the u.s.
Pacha in buenos aires beats any club in nyc
Fabric in london is the best club I've ever been to.
Would love to hit up amnesia and space in ibiza along with zouk in singapore and ageha and womb in tokyo.

im also biased to my first club NASA/shelter at 16
i do have some friends who experienced 54 and paradise garage who swear by them but from what i hear or read 54 was all about glam. seems garage was where it was at, no drama no bs even though it was prodominately gay all were welcome and no real fakeness. just music

PALLADIUM with the original owner Steve Rubel, not during the Peter Gatien.
I just wondering, why Steve so pssed with MIKE TOOD ?????
He had Mike Todd room at his Studio 54 and also at his Palladium.

I'm glad that I had experinced forking with him and Ian Shrager and David Miskid at the Paladium.

Also another club, The Saint at 6th street 2nd avenue, before my time that place called The legendary FIRMOR EAST where Jimi HendricK, The Doors, Black Sabbath and othes played. I like the roof DOME on top of dance floor. To bad they demolished that place in the early 90's

The original TUNNEL under RUDOLF, it wa great era too.

The erly years of LIMELIGHT, before Steven Lewis and Michel Alig, was my prime time of night clubbing (rock n roll promotor >>> Sunday Rock N Roll Church).

Yeah ..Palladium 1989 was my first NYC club..when I was in HS. DEF different from when Peter operated it ..and its *trendy* Steve Rubell time & Ian Schraeger had passed ..BUT Palladium was never another Studio 54 like they had hoped.

Ahh ..The Saint. yeah ..Ive seen pics of it. It was gay, but I would DEF would love to have checked it out.

not Firmor ..I think u mean FILLMORE. Ive only heard of it ..and DEF way before my time.

DEF Tunnel (and places like Area, Danceteria) etc under Rudolf Piper's direction were the SHITTTTTT :rockon Even still ..under Peter Gatien .. cmonnn ...you cannot take away the success and groundbreaking efect it had on NYC nightlife.

I cant forget RED ZONE :heart DEF my first weekly place I did NOT miss going to. Kenny Kenny & John Contini at the door :tisktisk :tisktisk

Twilo which is now Spirit? I worked there many years and I hated going to work cause I didn't like the club, I think Crobar blows it away. I guess people have different taste in clubs.

No doubt ...ESP USA and Palladium ..Hex turned OUT those dancefloors. I even still have a tape from USA LIVE ..in like 95 ?

Other resident DJs ..off thetop of my head ...at

LIMELIGHT - Disco 2000 - Keoki &..Willyhem ..Larry Tee & Lahoma hosting.

Thursdays - Frankie Knuckles for a while and allkinds of other DJs

Fridays techno - everyone from Repete to LOTS of big names in early techno

Saturdays - Sister Dimension. Dmitry from Dee-Lite, etc etc

Palladium - Hexxxxxxxx Hector on Fridays .. Clivilles & Cole Saturdays- Charlie Casanova

USA - Hex Hector is the only DJ who mattered there ..in my opinion. Honestly, cant even thjink of other DJ names at the moment :hmmm

Gonna make me hafta go through boxes of old fliers n shit lol :rockon

these pics are awesome!!! never made it to palladium or usa, shiiiiiiit. i think factory was a cool room and the fact that every fuckin week was a theme party the decore was cool also. Twilo def rocked music wise thought.

The SAINT (formerly FILLMORE) , I only went there twice, the dance floor with the dome ceiling make you like dancing under the star or in the outer space.

Tunnel under Rudolf was elegant young adult place, Tunnel under Peter Gatient mostly freaky kids go wild.

The othe clubs >>> XENON, New York New York same era with studio 54, Red Parot, Copacabana at 61st street, The World, B2Square, Nirvana on top of the Times Square building, Visage, Red Zone, Mars, MK, Max Kansas City etc.

For after hour Club was SAVE THE ROBOT own by Denise and Alexandra, Club 82 and Milk Bar.

The door person Kenny Kenny & Howie Montag, and that guy that always wearring Ten Gallon hat, I forgot his name.

palladium had the best set up-dance floor etc..
limelight had the scene-
usa had more of an underground feel
and believe it or not Webster hall was actually a good club back in the day- dont no how many people remeber or were there but maddona's pajama party at webster hall was a pretty sick event .

Levels in Miami. I remember, each hour, the club got bigger and bigger. By after hours, the place was like a big dark football field.
Mexico-Laboom, just becuase of the shooting ice.
Vegas-Rehab, because it was Sunday, it was outside and you felt like you needed rehab by then.
NYC.. Twilo. The sound sytsem was unreal and the club hosted the best DJ line ups.

Do you have any others ? Where did this come from ? It's very hard to find pics from USA. I , unfrotunately, didnt take many pics back in those days A) I didn't think ofdocumneting it..or that I would stil be in this business by now. B) Digital Cameras didnt even exist yet..and pic taking in clubs wasnt as popular asit is now. My camera was like the size of a big BRICK back then lol
