not trying to be a dick
but if your a dj, your job is to go RECORD SHOPPING and find tracks YOU think are appealing to you and your crowd.

yeh what cjay said , I mean if i tell you what to play basically it's me who would be the dj you know what i mean?
DJing is not ability to just mix records ,it's the ability to pick em and build em together
and besides we don't even know your style or your crowd so...

i completely agree - what you choose from music, records, cd's, songs, whatever- the beauty of it is that its YOUR choice... noone elses

I completely understand what you guys are saying, but as I said this is one of my first decent jobs and Im not claiming to be a world class DJ by any means. Im actually pretty nervous about this sh*t. I was just looking for some opinions and some support. And I know djing is a completely subjective thing each dj varies from the others and thats what makes it great. The crowd that I am going to be playing for isnt that "into" the club scene and wouldnt really know or appreciate any NYC type stuff. I was just looking for some tried and true opinions on songs that so called "normal clubgoers" will know.

in this case look into tango records,20/20 vision, hooj choons some harder stuff like Illgo,Drumcode ,Intec,Pornographic records
don't be nervous before you go into the booth , remember you will spin worse if you're nervous if you really can't help it though throw up before you go in, have a couple of beers after and you'll be good to go, a little alcohol in your blood will help you relax and you'll be on point. Find out what kinda crowd goes there usually and what DJ's collect more people. research the DJ's style what he plays what labels. DJing is all about researching and experimenting.

well if youre going to play for a crowd thtas not really 'cued up' it all depends... max has a good point about what the other djs play on other nights, etc... thta could be a good starting point, not that you wanna play like them, but just to give you a point to go from.. come prepared with a few different styles and try them all out, based off the crowds reaction you should be able to feel them out and see what their reacting to... age group, gender, race (not all the time, but sometimes,) look - can all be indicators of what to play... start your night out light, nothing too banging then just eventually ease the harder or chunkier stuff in... if all goes well im sure the last track of the night will be the least of your worries, hell play your favorite song, house or not house for the last track... good luck too. :)

Nope I disagree. There's soooooooo much music out there. Do people really need to ask other people what to play? DJ not JUKEBOX.
