Wal-Mart: Morality or Double Standard?

Wal-Mart has taken "racey" mens magazines off there shelves. Such reads as FHM, Stuff, as well as Maxim have officialy been proped down off of there cozy nests. Maxim which has been available for purchase for over 3 years now, is cut due to Wal_Marts intent to promote a 'family-friendly' culture.

"Those of you who live in NYC or LA may not shop in Wal-Mart. But for those who live in small towns and cities in ‘fly over’ land, Wal-Mart is a godsend. It offers reasonably priced goods that appeal to people that live on fixed incomes. They are among the few retailers that are willing to take a chance on small town America. It is comforting to know that some retailers set standards on the basis of morality and not just the bottom line.”

Personally I don't see how Wal-Marts goal of "family-friendly' culture can impress anyone regardless of what there geographical design may be. I just don't see how you can fullfill that statment by taking "racey" Mens Mags off your shelves but still permit gun sales to 18 year olds.

Let them remove them. This is part of what seperates grown, open-minded, mature people from their tacky family store. Let the Flanders shop there after church; I'll be somewhere else.

Most of the people don't go there to buy those things anyway, they were probably going to cut the mags anyway and decided to turn it into a publicity thing.

it's better off for the customers too...those mags are not worth the cover charge...you can find subscription deals that offer up to 70-80% off the cover charge....anyway, those are chick mags made to look like guy mags, that's why a lot of girls love reading them....also, there was an 'expose' so to speak on one of those nightly news programs where they found out that over 50% of the writing staff were women...don't get me wrong though, 'cause I'm not complaining about any of the pictorials

I think Wal-Mart is a joke and a dishonest company, but this isn't surprising. They've always had a conservative streak. They've used their market power to force labels to produce "clean" versions of popular albums for years.

I'm sure some conservative customers complained that they saw people looking at or purchasing lewd or lascivious reading material in the store. It's just chicks in bikinis who you could see at the beach on any given day anyway. The more they make these things forbidden, the more we'll have perverts walking around in the future who can't help but get an erection from looking at a girl because he never got to see one in a magazine when he was younger.

do you guys realize that WalMart's annual revenues are like $250 billion???? that's amazing. boggles the mind. destroys microsoft's revenue base.

i can only imagine what kind of financial infrastructure they have to manage that.

These people have nothing other to do than write about WalMarts morality level over a magazine...Gimmie a fucking break already. Go to 7-11 if you want the shit...Its there Business and they can do what they want with it..Fuck the opinions of people. There desicions obviously are for the better cause that place is a frieken madhouse.

And Chicago, to go along with the amount of money there making, they're also getting into the banking business.
