    Women's Only Club

Wisconsin governor Jim Doyle has signed a bill that would allow health clubs to discriminate against men and allow only women to join. The act, a reaction to a lawsuit filed against one of these clubs, legalizes the existing practice of Curves for Women, a women-only health club with hundreds of locations in Wisconsin.

Women say that Curves fills an important need, because they strongly dislike working out in front of men. 'It's just a lot more comfortable in here knowing that I don't have to worry about some guy hitting on me,' said Curves member Kellie Davis. 'I'm getting too old to put on Spandex.' Doyle said signing the bill would promote the health of women, in a state that once held the title of fattest state in the union. '

    full story here.

I wonder if a state decided to make no women's club or school?

I understand why they want their own club. I'm sure that if there was a "just guys" club there would be a problem though.

I speak from experience here and I can honestly say that the way men look at women, almost dehumanizes them into feeling like a piece of shit. And thats not even when we are working out....we could just be walking down the street and we are made to feel like shit.

Women dont do that to men.
You always were the one to show me how.
Back then I couldn’t do the things that I can do now.
This is slowly taking me apart.
Gray would be the color if I had a heart.
I just want something I can never have.
In this place it seems like such a shame.
Though it all looks different now,
I know it’s still the same.
    Everywhere I look you’re all I see.
Just a fading fucking reminder of who I used to be.

I agree. I totally understand how girls feel uncomfortable at the gym, especially on the hip abduction machine.

the used to have Spa Lady here in the DC area waaaaaay back in the 80s. i remember cuz my mom went there and would leave me and my bro in the day care. being a women only gym, i always had tendencies of sneaking out of daycare and wondering into the lockeroom in search of my lost mommy.

No, but women get married to men and make the rest of their lives hell.

In all seriousness, separation of sexes in gym is fine, as long as men can have a men's only gym as well. It appears everytime someone tried to do that, there was lawsuits on the basis of descrimination against women.

What does marriage have to do with the issue at hand?

Also, I went to Lucille Roberts with my friend once and I noticed alot of Hassidic and Muslim women went there because there were no men. I think women have reason to be seperated from men in the gym while men do not. In fact, they probably prefer to go to the gym to gauk at women in their tight leotards...which again, brings us back to square one.

Sorry, I should have put a winky there since it was meant as a joke.

I honestly don't mind this, I mind the double standards being placed on the men only clubs.
