well if you are from a major city it is... pick pocketers the fuckin gypsies are legit. they will throw you their child and get your wallet at the same time.

i would say it is a better idea to stay there then by spanish steps.

African Food is unbelievably disgusting. i think i might have had the worst stomach ache of my entire life when i was in rome, got in late and decided to eat at an Ethiopian restaurant. wow, i been hearing that italians are not really friendly as in they like to stick to their own little group and go out/ party like that

by the way, we ened up getting a hotel by the spanish steps cuz we were still scared to risk it, looking at pics area reminded us of the area w all the nightclubs in athens and that was one scary area ... so even though being there in person is one thing and seeing pics is an other, we still were too scared to stay in that area lol im sure i'll laugh about it later but everywehre i read about italy and esp rome and area around naples all im hearing is all the crime there... mostly robbery but still

The only part of Italian I was in that I didnt feel safe was Milan, it reminded me of housing projects. Old Rome itself seemed very safe, maybe you have to be a little more cautious because your a female, but you should be fine. One interesting thing to remember, the Vatican City is the no.1 spot for pick pockets in the world, so be sure to keep your valueables safe.

I did a crazy bar crawl in Rome also.....

my boy that came with me got a little too drunk the night before so he stayed in sick in bed.... I went by myself to the campo dei fiori plaza and met up with a group of like 15-20 people for a bar crawl (met up next to the Bruno statue - dont ask me how i even remember this, lol)

the night went on and on..... from one bar to the next to the next .... then I went with some of the very cool people i met there to a club and then another.... before I knew it, I was hammered and its was past 6am.... had to get back to my hostel (which at that point i had NO clue how to get to), wake my friend up, pack and head to the airport to catch a flight to Athens which was leaving at 730am.... as i rushed out of the club, a young guy propbably morrocon or algerian came up to me and put his arm around my shoulder asking me if I had a good time, me being drunk and clueless just thought he was a nice guy, until the two dutch girls i was with (met at the bar crawl) was like I should watch my stuff.... then i looked and this guy had his hand in my back pocket and my camera (with all our pics from all of europe) was half way out...... i didnt feel a thing! these guys are definitely professionals!

not a violent person, but i knocked the guy in his face and after a bit of yelling back and forth the guy left (probably to get his friends and maybe a knife, i wasnt waiting to find out) .... jumped in a cab, kissed my dutch girls goodbye and somehow made it to my hotel and to the airport with seconds left on the clock......

ahhhhh, just another bar crawl story in Rome...... lol

you will see random advertisements all over the place, they are organized by student groups, and other young people.... most that attend are backpackers etc....
