Pin loaded machines suck, unless the arms move independently. Maybe to superset with but nothing is going to beat a plate loaded machine other then free weights.

I agree 100%. I have been using hs the last 2 weeks due to my knee surgery. I wanted to keep any unnecessary extra pressure off my knee. I forgot how much i loved using these machines.

Hammer Strength Machines are good but you cant get too comfortable with them. Only thing I use them for is when I go heavy or want to mix things up. Other then that I usually just use free weights. Although I do use the Decline hammer for chest cause I cant stand the blood going to my head when I use the regular bench.

I always work out with free weights, tough to cheat and i feel i get the most controlled negative resistance. Like you said, it is good to switch it up, keeps the muscles guessing. Last night I put up 360 x 6 on the hs for flat bench (i would be scared to try that on barbell and there is no shot of you seeing me attempt 180lb dbs...). That was my 4th set of my first exercise which was pretty intense. For flat bench on db's i usually never go higher than 120lbs and for barbell, my last last attempt was 335 x 4. The HS does definitely give you some help.

I wish what I put up on the Hammer Strength machines was close to what I can put up with dumbells or on a bench. lol I can push a shit load of weight on those things.

I was reading that the reason why some of the hammer stregth stuff works different is due to the positioning of your hands. Its not so natural for us to put our hands straight across something. Having a slight angle is easier and thats why you can put up more weight. Not to mention the whole stabilization and what not.

I like the stabilization. I also like knowing the fact that if my spotter falls asleep, I dont have to worry about a bar hitting my chest

there is this new type of hammerstrength (but it aint a hammer strength) i seen it when i went to my boys gym. its same concept but instead of pushing in 1 straight line everything is on hinges some how so you have to push AND balance. crazy stuff.

technogym makes a chest press, shoulderpress, and a pulldown which not only move independantly, but also @ an arc.

i don't solely depend on machines i like to play with DB too...
i play with it all actually b/c i get bored QUICKLY/ i find hammerstrenghts to be a pain in the with the plates is all

although there are times im too shot to focus, so ill solely hit up the machine just for the sake of getting a few sets in.

with theDB/BB YOU are the entire "machine"

technically, a machine does work, so when ur lifting with them, ur splitting the work.

i think hammer strength is a good company. they make quality machines. i like them for variation but i would never use them as my basis of a workout.
