why bother with CD's anymore. you can get the same or better return by putting into money market etc and not be locked into it for a period of time??

Doesn't ING offer great rates on savings accounts? At least with that you don't have a term-period to wait for and you can take out money without penalties, although you should watch out for Reg-D if you have a savings account.

yeah but with those savings accounts you are getting 5%??? not sure but at that rate with the adjustment for inflation you are basically doing nothing with your money... better off investing it into mutual funds and get a decent 12-15%

But with the uncertainty of inflation and a recession in the economy, who would do that? If economists are saying that we are facing another Black Monday (Oct. 19, 1987) then I'm not sure I would make any major financial decisions to invest in anything, IMO.

But back to topic, CD's versus Mutual Funds, I would do both. You never want all your eggs in one basket.

well im not saying put all your money in one basket.. but id rather have my money in the basket that can earn 12-15 or higher percent and not be locked into anything. i dont see another black monday but i do see big corrections coming... maybe call me "optimistic"

i dont really know much about this, but my parents just invested a lot of money in CD's at bank of america.. my pops told me that BOA's intrest rates are really low right now, and since he and my mom arent not planning on touching the money, every month (for 6 months i think), they should be getting around $300 added on to what they originally invested.

once their 6 months is up at BOA, they'll take their money out, and find another bank with low intrest and do the same.

i'm new to learning all this stuff.. i'm gonna eventually get into it, so im just waiting to see how it works out for my parents this first time around.
