Apple clears almost $600 off of each iPhone

Based on a breakdown of Apple's last financial statements put up against their declared iphone sales, a NY Times columnist calculated that Apple makes $18 per month ($432 over a 2 year contract) for each iPhone sold. Add the current $399 pricetag (put aside for a moment the initial 1 million units which sold for more) = $831, minus the $245.83 manufacturing cost that was calculated back in January by MobileMag, that's $585.17 in Apple's pocket for each iphone sale right now, while it costs the consumer $399 + the cost of the phone bill for 2 years which everyone pays anyway.

Damn! With 1.3 million Iphone's sold, that means they are locked in to make 20 million per month from the subscribers for the next 2 years and that doesn't even count the new subscribers they add daily. Shit, this company is doing everything right. No wonder they have zero debt and 15 billion in cash.
