Lentils for NYE

..any one else have to eat them for good luck?

my mother woke me up in the middle of the night because i didn't eat my lentils for good luck... and proceeded to shove a spoonful of lentil soup in my mouth.

is this only an italian thing? do your families have any weird food superstitions on NYE?

im not italian.....but had lentils

another thing we do here....
my mom gets a small container and fills it with rice and lentils and i think something else and throws in a dollar and seals it up. Then you're suppose to keep it in your room and then next year on new years you have to go outside and throw it out. Its suppose to be for luck that you always have money during the year or something like that.
