Hey filipinos

my aunt brought some things she said she ordered from this filipino restaurant on xmas eve

they were like springrolls with fried plantains in them with honey on top

what are these things and where can i get them in the city

It's called "TURON"....its jackfruit & plaintains wrapped in an eggroll w/ a sugar syrup on top. So fuckin good. man now I'm cravin it.

ahhhh i just went to a filiphino resturant last week here in queens....their spring rolls and bbq pork and this lomein type dish BLOW chinese food out the water....I HATE chinese and i hesitated going but this place was RIDICULOUS with the food...it was simple amazing...its undernath the 7 train, i do believe it was somewhere in the 80's ill get you the exact spot

I prefere the lumpia, but those are ok. The first time I had one, I thought it was a big lumpia, and was kinda disgusted when it wasn't

LOL yea actually you're right we spell it "Turron" too..... I thiink filipino's might call that peanut brittle, peanut brittle. . Don't quote me on that though.

yea nothing beats that pork bbq! Its one of our signature things to eat...same w/ those small egg rolls (lumpia). I wonder which noodle dish you had.....there are several out there, and they all taste really different...with diff style noodles.

I think I went years ago. Don't remember it being very good. If you want a good Filipino restaurant, go to Woodside. I hear Krystal's is awesome. Inhawan is very good, too. Or just get take out from Elvie's here in the city

i've heard of it, but never been. Actually I haven't been to many filipino places come to think of it....I guess b/c I get the best filipino authentic cooking at home or from family. The places I have been to (from what I remember) in Queens, Elvies in Manhattan, & a couple places in Jersey City are decent....but not anything I'd highly recommend. I'd like to try this place you mentioned though.....Judging by the reviews, its seems ok.... but I would really want you guys to taste my father's cooking, esp if its your first time trying it. I'll see if he would be down to making a large batch of Lumpia, empanadas, Turron's, chicken adobo and/or coconutt chicken adobo. His meals will blow any of these spots out the water, no question.

i have had filipino food in JC with my filipino friend and his family years back...which was delish...i remember a thin noodle dish and lots and lots of lumpias

and my parents were friends with this couple and the wife was filipino and she was hte one that actually introduced me to lumpias

other than that ive never had it elsewhere--besides the turron that my aunt brought over so i am curious to try a place but every place i find on menupages/yelp have mixed reviews
