Conservative at MCain townhall meeting..im voting against Obama.. not for you

His answer doesnt satisfy me ...but the guy got skills .. everyday doin these townhalls he gonna be so prepared for the debates since pussy Barry wont accept any townhall debates

McCain confronts “enthusiam gap” in person
    by Mosheh Oinounou
SPARKS, NV — Sen. McCain took the “enthusiasm gap” head on Tuesday as he faced a question from a skeptical conservative voter at a Silver State town hall meeting.

“I’m a conservative and I have to say I think I speak for a lot of conservatives that I am not very excited about this election. And I think there is a lot of us that are voting against Obama more than anything else,” said Nevada resident Doug Englekirk, as he began to address McCain. Recent polls show that Democrats are significantly more engaged and excited about voting in November than Republicans and McCain has had more difficulty than ‘43 in riling up his base voters.

“Over the last number of years, there has been a lot of stuff I have disagreed with you on and I would like to know how you can assure me and other conservatives that you are going to hold to our values and give us something to be excited about so you aren’t the underdog,” Englekirk added, pointing out that he disagrees with McCain on global warming, drilling in ANWR, campaign finance reform and the “Gang of 14.”

McCain defended himself as an “unabashed conservative,” noting his fight against the GOP on spending and also attempted to assuage the voter’s concerns on the Gang of 14 and global warming.

“We have former members of Congress now residing in federal prison because we Republicans let spending get completely out of control. We betrayed our base when we started in on this pork barrel spending and let the spending increase,” he said. “I stood up and fought against the leaders of our party on that issue I wish I had been more successful. So I am very proud of my record of being a conservative and I am a conservative and I am and unabashed conservative. But I also believe that I am in the keeping of the tradition of one Ronald Reagan.”

McCain also noted that he believes that disagreements within the party are positive.

“It is healthy for us to have disagreements. It is healthy for us to have these discussions,” he said. “We have got to join together and put our country first that is why i want to be president of the United States.”

    More McCain:

On the Gang of 14: “There was going to be an attempt that they called the nuclear option to blow up the Senate that would only require 51 votes in order to confirm a judge. I thought that was wrong because I believe the United States Senate preserving the 60 vote majority makes the Senate unique from the House of Representatives. Seven Republicans, seven Democrats sat down together and we agreed that we wouldn’t filibuster a judge unless there was quote, ’special circumstances’…you will have to find me a Republican senator today now that we are not in the majority who would support the so-called nuclear option. The Gang of 14 got em through. The Gang of 14 was the one that preserved one of the fundamental operating principles of the United States Senate.”

On Global Warming: “I have to tell you that in all due respect climate change is real, it is taking place and the question is is how do we address it. And I would say to you just on that issue, suppose that I am wrong and we adopt green technologies, nuclear power, wind, tide, solar, and all of those things necessary to reduce Greenhouse gas emissions and I am wrong–there is no such thing as climate change–all we have done is give our kids a cleaner planet. But suppose that I am right and we do nothing and then what kind of a planet are we going to hand off to our kids and our grand kids?”

were you ever on debate team? lol
in what way is a town hall discussion, fielding questions from citizens with no opponent to reply or challenge you, in any way like a debate where you're squaring off point for point?

town halls are nice and comfy for mccain, i can't imagine anything LESS comfy for him than being onstage, in a big venue, debating a wordsmith like obama. he doesn't do well w/ large crowds, hence the town halls. talking to a roomful of people & fielding their ques. is NOTHING like debating your presidential opponent.

    ridiculous.

i know because Obama wontr have the media on his side .. and he will only get 2 min soundbites.. with a townhall people demand detail thats why the opponent has so much time to answer ..you never know what will be asked .. I just see McCain working alot harder which is why i feel he closing the gap ..Obama reminding me of Rudy .. taking shortcuts and not working hard as your opponent not good.. also americans favor townhalls 70% to bullshit soundbite debates .. obama sucks at townhalls cause he all fluff

The only reason McCain has no opponent is Barry afraid to accept

The media doesn't matter when it's two men on a stage stating their words live. You can't pause them, and have a reporter relay the "spun" material back to you. You got it, verbatim, with your own ears, seen w/ your own eyes- if you take the time to watch the debates.

If you want to watch the re-cap on the news, yes, you're susceptible to the media's take on it. But who cares? You want the genuine article, it's there for you, watch.

Debates aren't soundbites if you WATCH the debate and not the nightly news coverage of it.
What americans "like" is not indicative of what's a more accurate judge of capability IMO. They may like the intimacy of a town hall meeting, but that doesn't make it more reliable or more effective, it just means they like it better.

I think both opponents in a neutral setting, w/ a moderator, tough questions, and ample time to speak is a very good way of cutting the shit and getting answers. I don't need a heart to heart town hall w/ obama sitting 10 ft from me, i want to hear how they respond under pressure, in a debate, interacting and such. debate is a very good measure.

who's trusting the media? I know a softball ques when i hear it, and I'd disregard that shit. i'm not interested in fluff. but as a measure, debate is extremely effective. of course if you ask bullshit ques and don't challenge people it's less so, but that's b/c of your choices, not b/c of the nature of debate itself.

I feel it's much easier to sit in a town hall and "discuss" than it is to stand on stage in debate beside your opponent, in the hot seat.

the numbers may back you up (assuming they do) in saying people PREFER townhalls to debates, but that is not assessing which is a more accurate/effective way of sizing a candidate up. preference and effectiveness/accuracy are not the same.

again, then they need a more effective moderator, it's not a flaw with debate if you have too timid a moderator.

the process of debate is extremely effective in eliciting information and seeing how somebody responds under attack, pressure, etc but HOW effective does depend on the quality of the person running it, and the questions they're posing. you can make it meaningless, or substantive.

oh stop with your spin already .. townhall meeting is waaaaaaaaay riskier than a love struck obama drooler media biased moron giving the messiah 2 min of fluff and no fuckin detail ..what can i l;earn in a 2 min reply ..did you see how pathetic thosae primary debates were .. let us ask the questions then let us follow the question up not the media.. we hire the president and we should be allowed to interview extensively ... 10 townhalls would have been great. ..

exactly.. everyone knows i hate polls. but the last time i saw. it was like over 60% of people dont trust the media... so if thats the case why would we trust the media that we already dont trust.. to do the job of interviewing the person we want to run this country.. they people being elected are being elected by the people not the media.. let the people interview the candidates.. not the media representing their candidate their ideas.. their beliefs... take the slant out of the election.. let the people have the power that is rightfully theirs..

it's not spin jamez, not everything that contradicts YOUR view is spin, it's a LEGIT positon.

you make it like we all know you're right and we twist any way to "spin" our views. no. get over yourself.

if you don't like the way past debates have turned out, maybe they do need better moderators and tougher questions, but I would never eliminate the debate as a tool b/c IMO it's highly effective when done properly.

your issue might be that they aren't done properly. that's not spin, that's a legit position.

so wait, benny hates polls, and jamez has said he doesn't trust them either, yet you both cite them when they support your view.

    convenient.

public opinion polls yes.. i will never trust a poll deciding an election .. unless i see a 20 pt lead in one more one .. but theres no denying town hall is much riskier why cant he do both ??
