She's in her 60's and has some limitations...i wanted someone who would be able to take her limitations into consideration and educate her on exercises that she can do without being in pain...i dont think i need the best PT out there for her, shes not looking to get jacked...I'm looking for one that's smart enough to know the different routines that she could do without her being in pain

in that case, u do need a educated trainer. a trainer isnt paid to get anyone jacked. trainers, good trainers, get you the results you want quick and safe. an average trainer will have her doing stuff that she cant do. you definitely need to find a trainer with a lot of experience.

Yea exactly, I would be very selective and smart with who you pick. Just cuz somebody passed the test and is a "trainer" doesnt technically mean they know there shit.

Well she has very poor circulation to her lower extremities..she has a very hard time walking without being in severe pain. I tried the treadmill with her..she can only last about 45 seconds before shes in pain. I bought her a stationary bike, she cant do that for more than 30 seconds without the pain.

I suggested the PT to her she said NOOOOOO and theres no budging this woman when she says no

so now i have to try and do what I can with her...she hates exercise and I think at this point shes so discouraged and upset with the fact that her functioning is starting to decline...yet i cant get her to do a fken exercise...and she NEEDS TO LOSE WEIGHT...she quit smoking a year and a half ago and put on 50 pounds which is making everything so much fkn worse

Im gonna have to do whatever i can myself with her to help her.

What exercises can I do with her thats going to raise her heart rate enough to sweat..but keep her off of her feet long enough to avoid the pain that will make her not want to exercise ever again?

Im trying my best to get her to a weight watchers meeting cuz her diet sucks as well and ive tried everything already with her that I can.

Ive explained 100 billion times how she would feel so much better if she just tried and did some exercises, even if she only goes on the treadmill for 45 seconds at a time then comes of and does some strength training for her arms or something then go back on the treadmill for 45 seconds

OH god this is the worst

My next attempt is to tell her that if she loses 15 pounds I will quit smoking. Thats not alot to ask to make me quit smoking! lol I hope it works!

ok so today we made progress

I came back form the gym and got her to do a lil workout

    here's what she did:

    1 min-treadmill at 1.5 incline and 1.5 speed
2 min- bicep curls 5 pound weights..half way though she couldn't handle the weight so we did it without weights (i have to buy smaller weights, 5 are the lightest i have)
3 min- basic step moves with level one step
6 min- bicep curl/tricep curls (5 pounds weights) and some resistance band arm workout and arm pull down with pully (40 pounds! she did it with no problem woo hoo)
    2 min- step again
1.5 min- treadmill 1.5 incline and 1.7 speed
3 min- stretching (probably should have had her do this in the beginning too but i just wanted to get her going)

Not much but i got her to sweat!

Im going to have to do it with her for now on cuz i know she wont do it by herself...so ill just make a habit out of it when i get back from the gym everyday cuz im in that good mood and it'll rub off on her

Im going to keep doing this this week and next week when she starts to feel some results in her strength, ill move on to trying to get her to a weight watchers meeting, in addition to the workouts...but i have to go slow with her or ill scare her away

Her problem is motivation and shes very discouraged...so any ideas that you may have I would be grateful for....thanks!

tomorrow im going to tell her that when she loses 5 pounds im going to bring her to a concert or something, incentives should work well...i hope!

    hmm

    what specifically hurts her,
is it joint pain, or actuall muscle pain?

if its poor circulation i believe heat pads at night can help this.
but honestly try to explain to her that poor circulation is due to lack of use. the mmore you use anything on your body the better the circulation. legs are a doozy cause they are so far from your heart, legs are the first to get poor circulation from just stagnation.

i would start off with walks with her, take it slow, make it a game, don't make it a chore, make it togeteher time. fool her into thinking you guys are going for a nice walk. I have to do this with my dad too a littl hes soooo stubborn. i feel like telling both of them sometimes what happened here, growing up you raised me to never give up, and now your giving up? WTF!

Its muscle pain...she has decreased blood flow to her legs...heating pads are contraindicated in people who have decreased blood flow..you can actually cause more damage that way, even an ulcer if the skin breaks from it or was already broken

she has alot of atherosclerotic plaque in her legs...and other areas, just her legs are symptomatic right now

she cant go for walks, she can only last a minute or two and has to sit down, theres no benches on every corner so to bring her outside scares her cuz where is she going to sit and rest? at least at home she can sit after the treadmill

I know about the giving up crap..but i htink its just something shes going through right now, i just have to keep her going and i htink after she sees results she will lose tat giving up mentality

shes going for am MRI tomorrow to see if the pain is possibly back elated, she may have spinal stenosis, which might be it but we wont know till tomorrow...right now all we can assume is its due to her decreased circulation

    lol
i actually did trick her into going in the basement yesterday where the workout room is...when i start yelling about something she usually comes running,, that's the only time i can get the woman to run...so i yelled about something and 2 seconds later the lady is in the basement like lightening lol

"oh mom come here look at this?" (as I escort her towards the treadmill lol)
