    Question Oil

quick question (probably dumb too)...trying out a salmon recipe for the grill tonight. it says to add 1/4 cup of vegetable oil. I only have regular olive oil does it make a difference?

    INGREDIENTS (Nutrition)
    1 1/2 pounds salmon fillets
    lemon pepper to taste
    garlic powder to taste
    salt to taste
    1/3 cup soy sauce
    1/3 cup brown sugar
    1/3 cup water
    1/4 cup vegetable oil

    DIRECTIONS
Season salmon fillets with lemon pepper, garlic powder, and salt.
In a small bowl, stir together soy sauce, brown sugar, water, and vegetable oil until sugar is dissolved. Place fish in a large resealable plastic bag with the soy sauce mixture, seal, and turn to coat. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
    Preheat grill for medium heat.
Lightly oil grill grate. Place salmon on the preheated grill, and discard marinade. Cook salmon for 6 to 8 minutes per side, or until the fish flakes easily with a fork.

it wouldn't matter for thsi reciepe...depending what your cooking would determine what oil is best to use...christyne13 was right about dif pils having different smoking points....and luvmeluvmycat was right too that olive oil esp extra virgin is good for you bc it contains more monounsaturated fats which supposedly help againsnt coronary disease

this came out excellent by the way. at first when the fish was marinating in the bag i thought the soy sauce was going to be way too much but once i threw it on the grill it was perfect. i made it with some broccoli and shrimp fried rice (from Trader joes) which by the way is excellent and only takes 2-3 minutes to make.
