Boring PETA ask pet shop boys to change their name to rescue shelter boys LOLO

    http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/Musi...oys/index.html

LONDON, England (CNN) -- Just because they named their new CD "Yes," does not mean that British electro-pop duo, the Pet Shop Boys, will agree to just about anything.
PETA has asked the Pet Shop Boys to change the band's name to Rescue Shelter Boys.

PETA has asked the Pet Shop Boys to change the band's name to Rescue Shelter Boys.

The band has turned down a request from an animal rights group to rename itself the Rescue Shelter Boys.

The organization, the People for the Ethical Treatment for Animals (PETA), sent a letter to Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe acknowledging that its request, at first blush, might appear "bizarre."

But, by changing its name, the band could raise awareness at every tour stop of the "cramped, filthy conditions" that breeders keep animals in before selling them to pet stores, PETA said in its letter. Read how the Pet Shop Boys got their name

The duo, which has performed under its current name for more than 20 years, reproduced PETA's written request in full on its Web site.
    Don't Miss

    * Pet Shop Boys come back with a lot of 'love, etc.'

The musicians said they were "unable to agree" to the request "but nonetheless think (it) raises an issue worth thinking about."

The animal rights group said it was pleased the Pet Shop Boys had drawn attention to the issue by posting its letter so prominently on the band's site. Talking about its campaign on a blog entry, a PETA staffer wrote:

"I think I may have to stick "West End Girls" on my iPod right now to celebrate."

"West End Girls" is one of the many hits the group has had in its long career.

PETA is no stranger to oddball campaigns. A recent one was aimed to re-christen fish as "sea kittens" because "who could possibly want to put a hook through a sea kitten?"

PETA has saved so many dogs from some of the worst torture ever imaginable. I could care less about some of the outrageous ideas they have sometimes. We need an organization like this. A simple google search for PETA's undercover videos will give you an idea of some of the cruelty they have stopped.

I agree. They are definitely a little to extreme sometimes but its really not a big deal. In the end they help so many suffering animals.

Your talking like PETA likes killing animals.

euthanizing animals humanely & slaughtering/butchering them is not the same.

i know some shelters have to put animals down b/c they simply cannot afford to keep and sustain all of them.
i would rather they be put down humanely in the care of a shelter than starve or be killed on the streets

Wow, you really follow any organization/person so blindly that you believe they do no wrong...open up your eyes sometimes...

PETA is one of the worst organizations in this country...they are just another bunch of wackos clamoring for power...

seems like a Michael Moore documentary right there. Its very easy to edit your way to make any organization look bad. I'm not saying PETA isn't crazy. I know they are. I know they go way to extreme. I wish they would change a lot of their methods in handling animal abuse. But in the end they do more good for animals than bad. I guess you dont remember the experiments Iams was doing to dogs. It had no medical benefit what so ever. If it wasn't for PETA undercover work we would have never stopped that. I wont even post that video here.

Or the undercover PETA videos in China of how they were throwing live dogs into boiling water just to get their fur off their skin. Watch those videos of dogs getting boiled alive and then come telling me how "bad" PETA is.. There is a huge difference in putting dogs to sleep humanely than letting people boil a dog alive.

No living thing should experience that type of torture. PETA is a group that strives to stop those type of acts. Oh but wait, people that actually care about that type of torture are nut jobs?

Oh and dont tell me I'm following something blindly. I know how crazy PETA can be as I wrote up above. But in the end they do more good than bad for animals. There was a part in that video you posted about how PETA was protesting outside Los Angeles shelters. And then they interviewed the guy who was in charge who did seem like he really cared. Last week I was in Los Angeles for 7 days on vacation. I saw more homeless dogs in one week than I have ever seen in my life. (downtown Los Angeles) So that video makes it seem like PETA is protesting for no reason. But in reality the homeless dog situation in Los Angeles is absolutely horrible.

what good is it to help animals while stepping on and hurting humans?
