and looks like any service men who bravely served in Iraq or Afghanistan are targeted

The willingness of a small percentage of military personnel to join extremist groups during the 1990s because they were disgruntled, disillusioned, or suffering from the psychological effects of war is being replicated today.

so Bush created DOHS to monitor jihadists and supporters .. Under Obama it targets patriots and veterans .. normal americans who may have voted third party ..

The primary mission of this department is to prevent terrorist attacks on our nation. The document on right-wing extremism sent last week by this department’s Office of Intelligence and Analysis is one in an ongoing series of assessments to provide situational awareness to state, local and tribal law enforcement agencies on the phenomenon and trends of violent radicalization in the United States. I was briefed on the general topic, which is one that struck a nerve as someone personally involved in the Timothy McVeigh prosecution.

Let me be very clear: we monitor the risks of violent extremism taking root here in the United States. We don’t have the luxury of focusing our efforts on one group; we must protect the country from terrorism whether foreign or homegrown, and regardless of the ideology that motivates its violence.

We are on the lookout for criminal and terrorist activity but we do not – nor will we ever – monitor ideology or political beliefs. We take seriously our responsibility to protect the civil rights and liberties of the American people, including subjecting our activities to rigorous oversight from numerous internal and external sources.

I am aware of the letter from American Legion National Commander Rehbein, and my staff has already contacted him to set up a meeting next week once I return from travel. I will tell him face-to-face that we honor veterans at DHS and employ thousands across the department, up to and including the Deputy Secretary.

As the department responsible for protecting the homeland, DHS will continue to work with its state and local partners to prevent and protect against the potential threat to the United States associated with any rise in violent extremist activity.

i didn't offer any commentary, i just posted the report from DHS. i haven't really formulated an opinion of this one way or another, but let's see where this goes. i do know that DHS has a long way to go get its shit straight. i know of a number of people -- stand-up, exemplary Americans -- who were victimized by the Patriot Act and wire-tapping. i also know that loads and loads of money was funneled to DHS under Bush to "improve" implementation but nothing was ever delivered, and no accountability was conducted. so now, i think it's only fair that whitey gets a taste of its own medicine. simple-minded, smug perspective? perhaps, but as the cliches goes, you reap what you sew and the shoe very well could be on the other foot.

i don't feel this is fear-mongering taken to a whole new level . . . no one is flipping the "color" switch from yellow to orange to yellow to orange to pink. it's just 1 statement that's been issued. i'm more inclined to sit back and see how it plays out, JUST AS I DID with Bush -- it was only once it got conveniently opportune and out of hand that i felt it was fear-mongering.

civil unruliness is building and there's a lot of strife that tends to do one of two things to people: either heightens their receptivity to something more profound and good-natured or it hardens and radicalizes them, providing fuel for more unrest and possibly violence as a result. i feel sorry for anyone who thinks that a "revolution" style catastrophe is out of the realm of possibility in this country -- be it over economic imbalance, racial/ethnic/religious tension, social inequities, etc. but i digress . . . my receptivity is heightened towards helping out my fellow man, particularly those in dire circumstances (especially children and youth).

Patrick Henry had a time and a place . . . feel free to live by 18th century standards, i'll gladly take a more progressive approach and feel equally, if not more free and safe -- without the need/use of downright force. this is no longer the era of forcing people to bend to one's wills or whims. that's an old mentality/dogma of a by-gone era.
