Anybody else here have experience with this? My doctor's diagnosed me with it and apparently I have to go on medication for life to replace hormone my body isn't producing :(

What's odd is people who have it are usually overweight, I'm not, and the medication I'm going to take is supposed to make your metabolism speed up (which really makes me nervous). It can also cause sleeplessness.

My mother has it. I forget the difference between hypo and hyper, she had the one that keeps you skinny, then after she had me it started acting up and her weight started to change.

I eat a lot actually, but I'm prone to strange weight fluctuations w/ little to no change in my diet/exercise. I can put on 10 lbs, lose 10 lbs, and have done absolutely nothing different. A couple of months ago I was 130, now i'm 115 lbs and 5'8. I haven't changed a thing about what i'm eating or doing, my body just goes wacky by about 10-15 lbs. at least now this might explain some of it.

he wants to put me on thyroxine. i just get nervous at the idea of being on meds forever but at least this is encouraging lol

I've had strange symptoms over the years like fainting, or fatigue, etc. and i had bloodwork done but nobody ever detected this. I recently went to a new primary doctor for a physical and he told me my levels were off. He did another blood test to be sure, and here we are.

now that i read about it, i did have a lot of symptoms i just didn't realize they were connected to anything. i thought i was just lol

i dont think a complete thyroid panel is included in routine bloodtests which is crazy, but im pretty sure thats why ppl arent usually diagnosed right away.

seriously, i've always been quick to go to the dr. and it goes to show you that doesn't always result in knowing wtf is going on w/ your body. i shoulda changed doctors long ago.

ever since i worked at a doctors office, i always add other tests to my bloodwork like thyroid is TSH for anyone who cares lol and i forge STAT on the top of it so they get the results back the same day

No, that's allopecia, which is an autoimmune condition. Similarly, the thyroid malfunction is a condition of the autoimmune system. It's said to be that most thyroid conditions are precursors to other conditions.

You may want to run this by your doctor but selenium and iodine play an active role in thyroid malfunction. Often times we don't get enough selenium in our daily diet therefore the thyroid isn't able to obtain the necessary components to its healthy functioning. In short, selenium converts T4 to T3 which helps thryoid regularity. I would look into a supplement called selenocysteine. If your doctor okays it, I would take it. In addition, I would eat a few Brazilian nuts each day and try to up your shellfish intake slights (for purposed of iodine which you probably lack if your selenium is low...which I'm assuming is, considering the hypothyroidism/hashimoto).
