    Video Critique Thread

This thread is dedicated to those who wish to post videos for critique and are looking for help with their form/technique.

    DISCLAIMER

Here, I think Mark Rippetoe says it best - " Heads up: all videos I critique in this forum must remain posted as long as the thread exists. I am not here for your personal use, and when I comment on a video of your technique, I'm really showing everybody else what you're doing wrong. If this bothers you, don't post the video. But if you do post the video and I comment on it, it stays up. If this doesn't work I'll have to stop commenting on videos. This would be the loss of a good free coaching opportunity, but less work for me, so be nice to your fellow Q&Aers."

    Post away.

Here's a link to all of ours. We're going to ramp up production and start producing some mini-instructional vids quite soon.

That looks really good! Try turning to your right or left so that the tip of the bar is facing the camera and film it from the side.

    Looks good Randy.

Obviously Im not a professional but heres my comments:

    1) depth looks good from this angle, but it might be SLIGHTLY just parallel
    2) knees seem wobbily. i ran into this when i tried the low bar approach. you might be losing some drive out of the hole

    other than that, looking good.

belt looks great and you back stays night and rigid.

INVEST IN WEIGHTLIFTING SHOES! add 5Kg to to your squat instantly

When I do this row on a bench I always seem to have trouble placing my opposite leg (the one not on the bench bent). I think I might start doing them right off the rack like this. You seem to have more stability.

"Looking at the sky" is the worst, yet most common, fault of people when they squat. I understand that many people have been taught to squat that way, most often by people who have never themselves been taught how to squat properly, or themselves performed a proper squat. Looking up causes a number of shitty things to happen:

    1. Your cervical spine, and the discs that comprise that region, or under tremendous strain. This could lead to headaches, or worst, bulging/herniated discs.

    2. It puts your torso at more of an incline, which ends up transferring force from your posterior muscles (hams, glutes) to you anterior quadriceps. For a Back squat, you want to engage the hips and glutes as much as possible.

    3. It limits your depth and gives you a false sense of depth.

These are just the ones that come to mind right now. ideally, and I've debated many people on this, you want to fix your focus on a point ON THE FLOOR about 5-10 feet in front of you. I tend to look close about 4-5 feet. Most problems that I have to fix with people who come into my facility to learn to squat can be fixed by adjusting their focal point away from "up" and more to "down". Works every time. Try it. You'll add at least 10 pounds to your squat.
