Food trucks all over the village (SoHo)

Is this a new thing aroudn there? I was in the village Saturday....and up/down broadway, prince, spring sts.....were cupcake, fancy desserts, taco, souvlaki & halal trucks all over the place....parked on broadway mostly. Some of which were pretty pimped out.

When i used to work in the area 8-10yrs ago....not one of these were in sight.

Yep and there's a lot of beef with these trucks. Brick and mortar shops bitch and moan when they park in front of their businesses. Cops are always ticketing them and threatening to take their permits. There are some real good ones though. Schnitzel Truck, Dumpling Truck, Frites n Meats is okay and a ton of others. They go all over the city on a weekly schedule and update their locations via Twitter.

Not really, I know Frites n Meats and Schnitzel and Things are just Mon-Fri mostly. The Rickshaw Dumpling truck does Park Slope on Sat's and UWS on SUn

They definitely need permits, I was always curious how much they run too. Or how much a regular hot dog vendor or any halal cart pays for a permit.

Schnitzel truck is pretty damn good. My only complaint about all of these gourmet trucks is they are expensive IMO. A solid lunch from Schnitzel truck will run you close to $15 and you have to waste time standing in line, and then take it back to your desk. The perks of not being brick and mortar and having a cheaper overhead should be passed on to the customer. That's why I got over food trucks pretty fast.

For 15 bucks I can go to Sophies and get a better lunch, same amount of time, and have the luxury to sit and eat it there.
