Yanks did a good job at making their bullpen a strengh this year. It is a good way to offset the questionable starting pitching. The bullpen has a chance to be great.
Lets hope it pans out...he is a money closer, but the key word is closer
Not to many elite closers have panned out as great set up guys for some reason, but if any team can afford (money wise) to make a move like this and spend money on a set up guy at this cost, it is the Yankees and def this off season with the lack of spending money elsewhere

Once i realized we weren't getting a viable starter i was adamant that the Soriano signing was not a luxury, but a complete necessity. Mariano is still as terrific as ever, but he is only gonna get older the Yankees can't keep putting together a roster figuring he will be available for the entire season, it's just not logical. Combine that with the rest of the bullpen's performance (especially in the post season) last year, some heavy bullpen tweaking was needed. I liked the Feliciano move, but Soriano was just what the team needed. A bulldog who can pitch anytime, a fierce competitor & and someone who can finally lighten Mariano's load. I found it completely bewildering that Cashman was so intent on not losing the 31st overall pick when his regime has not had a great draft pick in a very long time. I found it even more bewildering that Cashman reiterated that feeling today, then news came out that he offered of all people, Carl Pavano a one year deal. So he wan't thrilled with signing a stud like Soriano but he was ready to pony up MORE money to Pavano ?? C'mon Cash, take it easy.

Anytime we sign a reliever of any kind, i get skeptical because they vary from year to year.....much less converting a closer into a setup guy, and also much less the fact that you're giving him $10 million per year PLUS 2 years a player options, so if he does in fact turn into a headcase, he can just pick up his option all the way to the bank.
Regardless of how Cahsman felt about this, his actions was such a joke today, really needs to put his ego in check
He could have defended his view on this move in another way (not when they are introducing him as a Yankee)
I want what all men want, I just want it more
For Cashman to voice those opinions AT the Press Conference for Soriano was a show of poor taste and to put it bluntly, a complete disaster. It's disrespectful towards the player you may have to renegotiate with in the future, it's a show of failure in your duties as GM and in reality it just makes no sense. Cashman has had a poor draft record in the past few years, he completely screwed up his handling of the Cliff Lee Free Agency and apparently he had no other intentions of fixing a suspect bullpen other than the Feliciano move. What else did he have planned ? Cashman himself admitted we got smoked by Texas ... so the plan was to bring the Yanks back Status Quo, and just see what happens ?? Truth be told, ownership did him a favor and he should apologize to them.
