Thumbs up How to get your PC running CLEAN, FAST, and QUIET

If you noticed that your PC is not as fast as it use to be, especially during boot up, then here is a guide I created on how to get it to run faster, cleaner, and quieter:

-First, you have to uninstall programs that you no longer need, or use. Go to control panel and click on "uninstall programs"

-Second, install iobit "Advance System Care" (Free Edition) click here to download
once you download it, install it. Once installed run "deep care" then just follow the screen directions. The system care will also install a small pop up on the top right corner, if your system needs care then it will be labeled either letters "C" or "D". "A" means its in good health. Its good to run system care once a month.

-Third, install AVG Free Anti-Virus if you don't have virus protection. Click Here to download free AVG. Once installed run the scan.

-fourth, download and install Soluto, install it and reboot your PC. Click here to download. This free software will speed up your boot up time to at least 50-75%. Just follow the on screen directions when running this software.

Making your system quieter (not recommended for laptops)
Most computers today have more than 1 fan to cool off parts of your PC, my PC for instance has 4 fans. There is no need to have these fans running at full speed all the time. What I did is install a free program called speedfan, when my CPU temperature drops below 98 degrees it drops the fan speed 10-20% along with my motherboard fan and the case fan. Once the temperature on my CPU goes above 103 degrees it puts the fans on full speed (100%). Since most of the noise coming from your PC are from fans by setting up this program to adjust fan speed depending on the temperatures of your CPU and motherboard will make your computer much quieter, you will love it, it makes a huge difference.
click here to download speedfan, click on help(once you have the speedfan open) to learn how to set it up.
once you finish setting it up, make sure to have it open on start up.

Final Step (for advance users) is to invest in a SSD (Solid State Drive), you dont need a big drive anything between 60gb-100gbs is good enough since you will only use your SSD drive for your operating system and programs you use the most like MS Office, internet explorer, ect. You can get a SSD drive at tigerdirect for around $100. Its very easy to install, the hardest part is moving your operating system to this drive. You will need a free image software to backup your drive C (or where ever you have your OS installed) then restore the image to your new drive. The speed of your boot up will be blazing fast, your programs will open much quicker. Its the best $100 investment.

Well that's it, if you need any help with anything just let me know.
I reduced my boot up time from 98 seconds to 23 seconds, and my system is super quiet 95% of the time.

    Hope this was helpful

are they like secret programs that help the OS run that I would think aren't "necessary" but they really arE? I am always worried to delete programs that wind up being drivers for key components of the OS or other software

Yes there are programs and services that start up on boot and take up your resources, the longer you have your pc the more of the services get installed. You can either do it the manual way which can be a bit dangerous if you don't create a "backup point". The manual way is to type "msconfig" on your "run" field (command prompt) and hit enter then select tab "startup", after that select "services" and look through all the services that you don't need to start up automatically.

If you want to do it the safe way with software help, get the software soluto , I posted the link to the free download on my first post of this thread. soluto will help you determine which apps and services you do not need running.

You will be suppressed to see how many apps and services start up on startup(during boot). Once you take out the ones you don't need, watch how much faster your computer starts up and performs since some of those apps and services hog your resources.

Good luck, let us know how you made out.

Well if you are a novice user or a user that basically surfs and uses basic program it's a good alternative, a Mac would be useless to me and many other power users.most hacking tools and network apps are not written for Mac os.

I'm very satisfied with the latest Windows 7(service pack 1). Since I installed it almost 2 years ago i never had 1 issue nor my pc has ever crashed or froze. Sure the windows os before this release were unstable but can't say that about windows 7, it only took 25 years to get it right.

Again I'm not knocking apple, it's a great product especially for someone that just needs a Mac for basic stuff, or to crate great graphics, and music. It's perfect for that. I have an iPhone and I love it and like iPhone os.

I was just messing around. I kind of got forced into Mac a couple years ago and happen to like it. My job is in the creative field so it goes hand and hand. I still use PC at home sometimes and have no real issues with it.

I should prob upgrade to 7, but alot of my programs i use on a daily basis are for xp, (some have gone out of business, obviously aren't upgrading to 7...)

I use linux for most of my trading and algo stuff...

If anyone has an old pc thats slow, and u dont want to re install windows..

Install http://www.ubuntu.com/, its linux, its free, and its really good OS, no virus, Fast, Clean, It get complicating for things more complex than watching movies and web browsing, but what do you have to lose....it gives you a windows based installer and sets up a dual boot system, so you can go between the 2 OS...

To make my fan quieter i did 2 things................ (1) was to make sure it was in an open space and had room to breathe.....(2) I opened the case up and used about a whole can of AIR to spray all the freakin dust that was in there.......I had my computer for 2 yrs before i did that and it make such an improvement...now i do it every 6 months or so...............to think the whole I did it in the first place was because I thought something was wrong with the fan motor and was looking to see how i could replace when all it needed wsas a simple dusting !!

    Hi,
Remove unnecessary programs from running in the background. ANd the best way to get your computer to run faster is by deleting any unnecessary programs you have installed. You can also delete cookies, temporary files, and run disc defragmenter to make it run quicker.
    Good luck!

is similar secret programs that help the way I think the operation is not "necessary", but do they really? I am always concerned to eliminate the programs that run as a driver for a key component of the operating system or other software
