"Westboro Baptist Church Threatening To Protest Funeral of Spc. Steven Gutowski on Monday PLYMOUTH — A strong showing of community support is expected for next week’s funeral for Spc. Steven Gutowski, amid growing concerns of a possible protest. The Patriot Guard Riders, a national group of motorcycle riders, have promised to attend the funeral in force and shield the Gutowski family from agitators. A rapidly growing number of community members, meanwhile, has also promised to attend what organizers are calling a peaceful counter-protest.The Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kan., announced plans to picket Gutowski’s funeral Wednesday. The church posted plans to preach its message “in respectful, lawful proximity” to Monday’s memorial services for Gutowski at St. Peter’s Church. The Patriot Guard Riders will attend the funeral at the family’s request. Police Capt. John Rogers said the town had not received any communication from Westboro Baptist Church about picketing outside the funeral. The church still mentioned a protest on its website Thursday afternoon, but the funeral had been taken off the church’s scheduled list of protests."
